I'm trying to figure out just what i want to do in the next iteration of our game. Is there a master list assembled somewhere of the playable classes in 3.5 that does NOT reflect homebrew creations? It seems like the last 3-4 ideas i found online got a resounding no from the DM, sad day for me. If it helps to narrow things down a bit, i think i'm leaning more towards something monkish, or magic based.

Monkish? The swordsage is an obvious pick here. Rogue and scout are decent as well. Ninja, battle dancer and monk may also be mentioned as good 'monkish' characters, but all those suck.

Let's see.

Ignoring the 11 from the PHB

Ninja
Spellthief
Scout
Warmage
Warlock
Wu-jen
Favored soul
Spirit shaman
Shugenja
Healer
Samurai (2 versions)
Hexblade
Swashbuckler
Shaman
Sohei
Factotum
Trunamer
Shadowcaster
Binder
Crusader
Swordsage
Warblade
Noble (DLCS)
Dragonfire adept
Dragon shaman
Knight
Beguiler
Archivist
Dread necromancer
Psion
Wilder
Psychic warrior
Soulknife
Lurk
Ardent
Divine mind
Artificer
Duskblade
Mystic (DLCS)
Marshal

I -think- that's everything that's not NPC or dragon compendium. Off the top of my head too. :smallcool:

Edited to include the -two- I missed.

excellent, thanks.

I found a version of Samurai online, but it's obviously homebrew, and was told not just no, but HELL NO haha.

I will look through those you have listed, and then revert to the archives if needed..

That's certainly more complete than my memory but it's also cluttered with a bunch of repeats because it lists all the variants.

I did, legit, miss the mystic and the marshal from all the official WotC base classes.

The only other 2 I missed were the eidolon and eidoloncer from ghostwalk but you can't start with either and they come with certain, "special" considerations to their use.

The mystic is from Dragonlance setting book, isn't it? Is the Marshal from that one too?

Mystic is from dragonlance campaign setting

Marshal is from the miniatures handbook

Neither is super impressive.

dragon fire adept and spellthief seems to be the best on that list imo.

now to decide...

as for races, anything w/ a +1 LA is fair game at creation w/ no applied LA...

Spellthieves are pretty reliant on the presence of spellcasters to fully function. DFA has no such need. There's some neat tricks that a spellthief can pull off as a spellcaster though, especially if you're willing to build around the master spellthief feat.

Race-wise, you can never go wrong with human or strongheart halfling for either sort of character. Kobolds can be a thematic choice for a DFA. Or you could do something completely different with your race by going with something like changeling or warforged.

Spellthief and Dragonfire Adept are actually a great combo with each other, since the Spellthief can steal all of the Dragonfire Adept's 24-hour self-buffs. While Kelb_Panthera is correct that their marquee ability doesn't work well absent the presence of casters, they can still be very powerful without it if you take the Trickster variant from Dragon Magazine #353, which gives you a ginormous upgrade to your spellcasting, giving you spells known and spells per day as a Bard and adding all Bard spells to your class spell list. It costs you some skills and sneak attack dice—which you can then get right back by using your new and improved spellcasting to qualify for the Unseen Seer prestige class from Complete Mage, natch.

Both classes are available for free online, incidentally. http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20050107a&page=1, http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20060912a&page=2

A great race for either class, if you get +1 LA for free, is Dvati. Each Dvati is actually a set of twins who share all their abilities and get full separate turns in every round of combat. This means that you can set up sneak attacks by flanking with yourself, or use your breath weapon twice in every round. It's extremely powerful. The downside is that you only have one set of gear to split between both twins.

Another really good race is Half-Giant (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/monsters/halfGiant.htm) with Secret of Xen'drik's Primordial template. This gives you big boosts to Intelligence and Charisma and allows you to use your choice of invisibility or levitate at will. Very strong.

I'm also a big fan of Mulhorandi Divine Minion (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mb/20050209a) (usually of Nephthys), which gives you a powerful wild shape ability that you can use at will as a free action. Combine it with a feat like Frozen Wild Shape (from Frostburn) or Aberration Wild Shape (from Lords of Madness) and you can have nearly as much wild shape power as an actual Druid, if not more. Or don't combine it with anything, and just enjoy being able to shapeshift into a hawk or crocodile or constrictor snake or lion at your convenience—that's fine too.

This one (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=8925.0) has NPC classes too. I know I've seen a complete PrC one too...

There's a certain PDF compilation that contains all kinds of classes, prestige classes, bloodlines, ACFS, and other "classy" stuff published by WotC around the interwebs. Sadly, I can't really give it to you, because it is illegal under US's laws (and these boards are on a 'murican server) to share it with anyone, since it actually shows ALL of each class's information (netting it a total of over 1900 pages). My country doesn't really care if you have pirated content, as long as you don't share it, so I just keep it around. You can look for it, if you really want it. It's not that hard to find.

Now, if you're looking for a "Monkish" character, why not make a Monk 1/Ardent X character with the Tashalatora feat? It's pretty good, and you get something else to do when not punching people in the nuts.
