So...last time I tried writing this up, I went way too in to detail, and eventually copy/pasted to homebrew section, and then just didn't submit because the level 20 capstone was really depressing, mentioning the meaninglessness of life as an immortal being of pure magic who has outlived all you cared to protect...and then accidentally closed the tab as I built up the courage to submit it.

Anyway, I'll just stick to the basic concepts, as well ask asking for ideas. What do you think the core concepts should be maintained in a 10 or 20 level Abjurant Champion class?

So the concept: Abjuration is the protection school. So, it should be about protection. But protecting yourself is generally "meh" and with AC even more so. So protect allies and yourself.

So, basics: Spellcasting (and advanced learning) as the Beguiler, but restricted to Abjuration only (or full casting if a prestige class). Gets (Greater) Mage Armor to count as Abjuration school, and also gets spells that include "shield" or "armor" in their names, and several others that revolve around protecting your allies, including Benign Transposition. Light Armor casting also wouldn't break anything. BAB: 1 or 3/4. Saves: Fort + Will.

It should probably retain the Extend Abjuration spells, since...yeah. And a way to instantly (or at least in the same action as casting another abjuration spell) cast Shield. Quicken Abjuration is really nice. Could come later, with a scaling number of times per day.

Abjuration Armor...I was thinking would give a stacking DR that also applies to damage spells, for their duration (if the spells themselves stacked, or at least didn't overlap), instead of AC. I just generally feel that it keeps the juggernaught feel without being impossible to hit (with what? +26 AC from Shield + MA at level 10, if we just used the original Abjurant Champion's power), and miss chance tends to just be better for that. Upgrades to make the armor/shield bonuses from their abjuration spells affect touch attacks from spells and incorporeal creatures, then to grant non-stacking saves vs spells later?

As the class goes on, it becomes more proficient at protecting everyone, not just themselves, getting bonuses to Shield Other, and using Benign Transposition to take hits for allies as immediate actions.

And later still, magic starts to become a really big problem for any group's survivability. Start scaling your dispel checks. Eventually get them as inherently immediate actions, perhaps.

Anything else that should be in such a class? Maybe the Caster Level = BAB, if it's an improvement should be. Not that critical, if it's a base class.

Well I think that the classes name is a slight misnomer, and should be ever so slightly changed, because a good deal of "protection" spells are also in the enchantment and conjuration schools.
If you left out the abjuration part of their increases to spell ac, that means hasting Ally's would be that much better, but at that point if you can take it past 5, maybe only do half class lvl to ac, but increase the types that it can apply to.

As for being the tanky gish that it was meant to be, it does seem lacking on damage without spell buffs, and it doesn't have any class abilities that lend to its supposed martial prowess.
Possible a 1/turn on meele hit dispelling strike that can only remove 1 spell effect at a time, but does scaling d* per spell level dispelled.

Anyways back to work. I'll post more maybe when I have time.

Most of what you described is easy to do with Spheres of Power without a specialized class.

perhaps they could get the ability to apply personal buffs to other people, so as to spread out the tankiness?

Take a look at other Abjurer prestige classes like Master Specialist or Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil.
