View Full Version : DM Help re-drawable transparent "minis"?

Hey guys,

Fairly new to DMing (and my group is pretty new) so we don't have much in the way of real minis - just a few stolen from the Castle Ravenloft boardgame. I think I'm mostly going to be using foldable paper minis for common creatures, but I was hoping to have something a little more flexible if I want to use/create other creatures. In looking at the Total Party Kill handbook (http://www.2cgaming.com/store/p10/tpkh-print), I noticed that it has "minis" which are images printed on transparent plastic sheets, which sit in stands.

I like the idea of having more flexible versions of this - transparent sheets of plastic of the right size that can stand upright in some sort of plastic stand, that I can draw on with wet- or dry-erase markers to create my own monsters. Does anyone know of a product like this, or an easy way to make them? (sadly, my various attempts at googling this invariable present information on re-usable battlemats instead).

Thanks!

Just cut out rectangles you can draw on, now you just need some cheep bases...

Excellent! That's definitely what I was thinking, but wasn't sure about stand options.

I've been thinking....
maybe cut out long rectangle strips,
and then fold them in half and then fold the ends in opposite directions to make a "T" shape.
and stich that through an old slota base and glue the tabs under the base so you just see the top sticking through.

Just had a realization. I can pick up some clip stands, which will let me just clip in my transparencies. Looks like amazon has a ton of options.

Binder clips. Put your whatever-you-want- in it, remove the wire, and you're good to go.

Oh. Yeah. That would work well. And I can leave the wires on if I want to be able to replace the whatever-it-is.

If I where going that route, binder clips are definitely cheaper.
and possibly a bit more stable...

oh and removing and replacing the wire is very easy, literally takes like a second.

They come off and go back on again with ease. Take them off for use by squeezing them together towards center and pulling. Reverse to put it back on.
Piece of cake, inexpensive, completely workable, and useful for other things when not gaming.

I buy 3/4" pvc pipe and cut it into 2" sections, then glue pictures around the circumference (3 pictures of 1" width or so around the deal).

If i have time I'll try to share a picture tonight
