Although I lack quantitative evidence, it seems to me that as of late moderators have been locking threads without leaving red text reasons more often than not.

I would like to politely ask that this practice is resumed for each and every lock. Not only will it reduce confusion, but far more importantly, it will reinforce the rules and provide hard and fast examples of what is considered unacceptable behavior.

Without an explanation, the enforcement seems arbitrary. Even to those of us who know better.

I tend to agree that it's a good idea, on any forum, for a mod to say why a thread is being locked. Reading a list of rules is one thing; seeing them enforced is another.

Plus it reduces the number of people that will come to Board Issues, asking, "Why was my thread locked?"

I agree as one of the above treads was mine and I don't care that it was locked but I would have liked to hear the actual reasons for it being locked.

I've noticed this, too. Have to say I agree... with all the people above me who already stated all the good points.

I think I can safely speak on behalf of my brethren and sistren mods when I say that we agree: giving a reason for locking threads is the preferred and standard practice. However, it is not an absolutely uniform practice. Sometimes, time or other countervailing concerns override it.

If you have a question about why a thread was locked, feel free to contact a moderator for that forum.
