I'd like to make an elf character based on Thranduil in the Hobbit films. I'm curious as to which class(es) people think would suit him best.

For reference:

Any suggestions?

is there a class for being a complete and utter turd to everyone?

High Elf Eldritch Knight with only buffing spells and refluffed high-magic magical effect to something more depressively mundane.

Isn't that what alignment's for? :smalltongue:

As to the content of those film clips, I'd say... fighter. Maybe ranger, but the D&D ranger is based pretty heavily on Tolkien's Rangers of the North, and Thranduil is not one of them.

That's what Race: Elf is for.

Well, you'll need to be a spellcaster of some sort, to justify the giant staff up your characters backside

Tolkein Elves are pretty Paladin-y. It would explain the stick better than a spellcaster...

Yes! You can even get find steed for a giant elk. Ancients seems to work well thematically too.

Did they ever explain why his face was covered in an illusion-type effect? Maybe an Eldritch Knight or Banneret?

I think that's just minor illusion, and the virtue of being a high-elf. Or maybe he has lots of Wizard levels for seeming, or maybe a magic item with seeming.
