Howdy playground,

It's been quite some time since i've been on the forums and it feels good to be back. I haven't been in a D&D group in a couple years so my character building has gotten a bit rusty. My roommate is starting up a campaign soon and invited me to play. I have a concept but i don't want to overdo it with the optimization most of the group is going to be lower tier and i don't want to overshadow them. i guess the question is, if i am playing a soulknife with the intention of going into soulbow as part of a gestalt, what would be an interesting class to gestalt it with.

also just a heads up splashing class is a no-go in this campaign, baring base classes that is. Thanks in advance for the help

Something Wisdom-focused springs to mind; with Zen Archery your main attack can be nicely SAD. The "best" answer is probably something like Ardent or Cleric; for something lower-op, a Paladin with Serenity, perhaps? What's your concept focused on?

i was thinking an assassin themed character well know to always get their target via phase arrow. so a way to get mindsight would be nice for those behind walls other than that its up in the air

Edit: i know its not much to go on, if i can get the dm to agree to qualify the soularrow as a monk weapon i was considering taking monk for the synergy

How about a Swift Hunter (http://www.brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=103.0) ranged build on the other side of the gestalt?
Also there are some tricks listed in this Soulbow Handbook (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?275200-The-Handbook-to-Kill-a-Yak-With-MIND-BULLETS!-I-mean-Arrows!-Soulbow-WIP).

Psychic Warrior is thematic and pretty decent if you don't want all-out Cleric. Take the feat for a psicrystal - you get Alertness for free as a result, which is one of the prerequisites for the obligatory Shiba Protector dip. You can also use Tashalatora to progress Monk stuff with Psychic Warrior levels.

The validity of Swift Hunter is questionable in gestalt, what with the advice against theurge type options, but they are solid options if allowed. Or straight Ranger; especially given that this is a low-op game, they have a nice bit of utility and, if you take the Mystic Ranger or Wild Shape Ranger ACF, power. I'm pretty sure you can still shoot mind arrows in animal form...

Also, better handbook (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?473666-New-Scout-Handbook) for Scouts/Swift Hunters, with a section for Rangers.
