In tomorrow’s session, I’m planning for the PCs to come across a wilderness murder scene, and I’d like some sort of wild scavenger to be involved.

Ideally this would be a creature (or creatures) which would be a challenge for a first- or second-level party. I’m open to all official Paizo sources, and I’m looking for something a little out of the ordinary—the creepier the better.

hey man whats up?

here again to help ya out.

There is a Larval slime crawler (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/aberrations/slime-crawler-larval-tohc)

or if you want a harder encounter the mature slime crawler (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/aberrations/slime-crawler-mature-tohc)

OR a carrion moth (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/aberrations/carrion-moth) if you want a boss fight

Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate it. Definitely creepy and outré.

I’m not familiar with material from Frog God Games, but based on this I’ll definitely give it a look.

Even ignoring FGG's other material, the Tome of Horrors Complete is actually fantastic, it's got so much material, it really adds a ton to the game. Highly recommended!

First thing that came to my mind was the basic Carrion Crawler, from the SRD.

Have it feeding from underground, and all the party will see at first are tentacles waving up out of and ripping bits off of the corpses.

The otyugh (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/aberrations/otyugh) is a particular favorite of mine
