Team Ready, Aim, Fire! Round 3

[Lord Herman]

Hello, and welcome to the third round of team-based spin-off of Silkenfist's Ready, Aim, Fire!

The theme for this round will be Superheroes and Supervillains. The style will be 'silly, but not too silly' - so it won't be exactly The Tick, but it won't be too serious either.

Registration is open until Sunday, 18:00 GMT. If you want to join a specific team, please specify which one. If you don't specify a team, I will add you to a random team.

The Rules:
The rules are like those of the standard game (linky!), with a few additions:
1. The players are divided into two or more teams.
1a. At recruitment, the players specify their preferred team.
1b. Players who don't specify a team will be placed in a random team.
1c. If one team has more members than the other(s), I will randomly move players around. I'll first try to even it out with the players who didn't specify a team.
2. You can not shoot players on your own team.
3. If your team is the only one left standing, you win. There are no individual victories in this game - only victories as a team.

Silver medals are awarded each round, and are calculated only from the results of that round. You always keep your silver medals.

Gold medals are awarded to the overall winner of each category, and can change ownership after each round.

Well, actually, it's easier if there are at least a few people who don't specify a team. That way, it's easier to make the teams equal.

But I urge everyone to just specify the team they want, not the team they think has the least players. And don't not specify (grammar?) a team just because it's easier on me. Only go unspecified if you don't care which team you're on, or if you can't decide.

On a rooftop of an abandoned apartment building, two dark figures are standing next to a large, rumbling machine. “Finally,” says one, “my plan has come to fruition! Soon, the whole city will be covered in pudding!” The other one sniggers, and says: “And you, my mistress, will be its supreme ruler!”

They are just about to burst into diabolical laughter, as four men and a llama in brightly coloured spandex suddenly burst onto the scene. “Not so fast, Alarra,” says Captain Obvious, “we are here to stop you from completing your plan that involves covering the entire city in pudding, making you its supreme ruler!” Inkman, Super Salmon, Cow-man, and the Masked Llama close around the villains. “Damnation! The Spandex League! We are foiled again!” Alarra turns around. “Quickly, Castaras, to the secret escape route!”

The heroes go after them, but the villains run through a bright red door marked ‘secret escape route’, and with a loud click, the door is locked behind them. Captain Obvious tries to open it, but to no avail. “The door won’t open,” he says. Cow-man, wearing his white spandex suit with big black spots, steps up to the door. “Even my bovine powers cannot open this. The Lady of Pudding has escaped once again.”

While the heroes return to Spandex League Headquarters, Alarra and Castaras report to their leader, known only as ‘The Veil’. “Excuse us, mistress of crushing dark and doom,” says Alarra, groveling on the ground, “we have failed. The Spandex League found out about the plan.” Alarra cannot read the reaction on The Veil’s face – mostly because it’s completely covered with a black veil – but she is obviously displeased. “How many times does that make now? Twenty-seven? Dammit, why do I keep sending you incompetents on such important errands? But no matter. I have a plan that will spell doom for the Spandex League, and all of Urbopolis city. Alarra, I want you to assemble the Circle of Bad Guys. Tell them I have a villainous plot to discuss.”

Meanwhile, in Spandex League Headquarters, the heroes are having an argument. “No, Ezlo! No, no, no! I don’t care if it’s your turn to organize the Spandex League Anniversary Celebration. You can’t rename it Meatloaf Day! Seriously, if you…” suddenly, Captain Obvious is cut short by a loud alarm. “I hear an alarm! Quickly, to the Plot Device!” The heroes gather around the big beeping machine known as the Plot Device. It is covered with blinking lights, and it is spewing out a ticker tape. “Here, the Plot Device is spewing out a ticker tape. It reads: ‘Evil plot afoot. Circle of Bad Guys convenes. City in danger.’ Oh no! The city is in danger! We need to do something!” Captain Obvious is about to run off, Roadie Dude grabs his arm. “Wait up, man. Maybe the machine will give us some more plot information. Maybe something about, oh, I don’t know, what the plot is about, and where it is being… uhm… plotted?”

“So, esssentially,” says the Blue Serpent in his strange hissing voice, “your plot iss to place a big laser on top of a tall building, and sstart sshooting sstuff?” The Veil sounds annoyed. “It’s called a Death Ray. And yeah, that’s the plan. Of course, we’ll blow up Spandex League Headquarters first, and then work our way down.” “Ssoundss like a good plan to me. Evil. Diabolical, even.” The villains nod in agreement. “Well, that’s settled then. We’ll meet at midnight on top of Really Tall Tower. It’s the tallest building in the city; perfect for our plan.”

Classically, the worst powers are usually scorned and their owners driven away like Dr. Frankenstein when he came looking for donations.

For instance, if an infant could command raw sewage, there's a much greater chance he'd end up living in the sewers as a bitter, surface-hating monstrosity than if he had expressed the ability to turn into a cow.

It's likely that a child or even an adult or others, having first created a poisoned meatloaf, would not know that it was poisoned, and say "Hey! Our kid/acquaintance/I can make food! Happy day! Let us gather our friends/family and have a feast/party!"

The deaths of these people would likely cause the child/person to be mistrusted, or he'd wind up an orphan with guilt issues. Historically, this has led to villainy.

My rants are often wrong and crappy even if right. If so, it may be disregarded as such. That is all.

Sentinel Skippy, Captain Obvious and Inkman are climbing the seemingly endless stairs of Really Tall Tower. While Captain Obvious effortlessly jogs up the stairs, the other two heroes can hardly keep up. “Why… *huff* …did it have to be… *cough* …Really Tall Tower? Why can’t the villains… *wheeze* …pick a building that’s not so damn tall?” “Well, Skippy,” says Captain Obvious, “that’s because they’re planning to deploy a giant laser, and they need to put it on top of the tallest building in town so they can hit every other building.”

“Exactly,” says Funk Master, walking down the stairs. “But unfortunately for you, you’ll never see it in action.” Suddenly, Puzzle-man and alec appear behind the heroes. Captain Obvious immediately turns around, and makes a huge pile of trout appear right above Puzzle-man, crushing him. “Ha,” he says, “you’ve been crushed by a… wait, what’s that smell? Ugh, that’s enough to make a man go mad!” As he turns around, Funk Master grins at him. “That’s quite correct,” he says, as Captain Obvious starts drooling and going ‘baa’. But as Funk Master bursts out in evil laughter, a stream of peanut butter bursts from Sentinel Skippy’s outstretched hand, right into Funk Master’s mouth. The villain can’t swallow the stuff fast enough, and his lungs fill with peanut butter. Sentinel Skippy, master of Peanut Butter, strikes a pose and prepares to say something dramatic, as alec suddenly screams: “Monkey powers, activate!” He turns into a monkey, and lobs a coconut at Skippy’s head, crushing his skull.

“Guys, guys, wait for me,” says Captain Catastrophe, running up the stairs. He notices the pile of dead bodies, and is about to ask Captain Obvious what happened, as the deranged hero suddenly says: “Ooo! A monkey! Hug the monkey!” The hulking superhero jumps at the monkey, and together, they crash through a conveniently placed window, plummeting to their death. “Just my luck,” says Captain Catastrophe, as he continues up the stairs.

“A little to the left,” shouts Alarra at the helicopter. Getting the Death Ray in place is not an easy task, and The Veil has assigned Alarra and Castaras to the task of getting it exactly right. “No, no, not there, more this way,” Castaras says. “This is taking forever,” says Khaldan, who is piloting the helicopter. “Just pick a spot and I’ll put it down.” “Okay, here,” shouts Castaras. “No, wait,” says Alarra, but Khaldan has already released the massive device, dropping it exactly on top of Alarra and Castaras.

As Khaldan lands his helicopter, Kasz awaits him. “Stop right there, villain! Behold my powers of cookie creation!” “Cookie creation? What kind of a stupid power is that?” “Hey, that’s not a stupid power. I can make cookies appear anywhere!” “Anywhere?” “Anywhere.” “I bet you can’t make one appear inside your brain.” “Oh, yes I can.” Suddenly, Kasz twitches and falls over, dead.

The Purple Gelatinous Cube of Doom, sitting on top of Really Tall Tower, has spotted HyramGraff and Roadie Dude standing around at the entrance of the building. The cube decides to drop himself on top of the heroes, and slowly slides over the edge of the tower. But as he is halfway down the tower, HyramGraff and Roadie Dude have already entered the tower. “Did you hear something?” says Roadie Dude. “Sounded like a splat,” says HyramGraff “Sounds more like two dead heroes to me,” says a voice behind them. As they turn around, they see Moon Called, who is carrying a pile of anime DVDs. She is about to open one of the lethal cases, as someone knocks it out of her hands. “Not so fast,” says The Emperor. As Moon Called turns to face the streaking hero, she forgets about his power. “Aaaah! I’m blind! I’m blind!” she screams, but she is cut short as Roadie Dude zaps her with his air guitar.

“Finally, the Death Ray is ready,” says The Veil. “Let the people of Urbopolis City tremble! Doom has come!” Lightning flashes, and the aptly named dun-dun-DUUN plays a dramatic chord on a conveniently placed organ. Suddenly, Akaziel appears right next to The Veil with an odd red light effect. “Damn, I missed,” he says, but as he turns to run, he is looking into the mesmerizing eyes of The Blue Serpent. “When I ssnap my fingerss,” the Serpent hisses, “you will jump down the tower.” After an embarrassing silence, the Serpent realizes that he doesn’t have any fingers. “Alright, never mind the ssnapping. Just jump.”

While Akaziel discovers the less convenient aspects of gravity, The Blue Serpent finds himself in the grip of the Masked Llama – strands of tough llama hair grasp the villain, strangling him. But as the big blue snake dies, the Masked Llama is faced with a new enemy. Firepup throws a bolt of force at the llama, knocking him off the tower. As the dying bleat of the llama disappears into the depth, the bolt bounces back and fries firepup’s cat. “You killed that kitty!” says Meatloaf Boy. “You’ll pay for that, you villain!” “Moo!” says Cow-man, and as the cow holds firepup down, Meatloaf Boy force-feeds the villain a whole poisoned meatloaf.

“Right where I wanted you,” says Toiletry, as Cow-man slowly turns around. “Moo!” says the cow, as he is blasted off the tower by a torrent of raw sewage. “That’ll teach you, stinking up the place.” “Look who’s talking,” says Inkman. “Oh, come one, is that the best you can come up with?” says Toiletry, but Inkman has already come up with something better. A squirt of ink to the face later, the villain finds himself stumbling around, losing his footing, and falling down the tower.

“We meet again,” says Sushi Man. “Yeah, I guess we do,” says Super Salmon. “I guess we should fight, seeing as we are arch enemies.” “Good idea,” says Sushi Man. Super Salmon focuses all his power on a point above Sushi Man’s head, and a giant salmon appears. But before it hits the villain, the fish has turned into harmless sushi. A few attempts later, and the floor is littered with sushi. “You know, I can do this all day,” says Super Salmon. “I don’t have to,” says Sushi Man, turning his nemesis into sushi.

4th Degree has found herself a target. Baboon Army is sitting around, doing nothing. She charges her claw with cold energies, and releases a bolt of frost at her victim. Unfortunately, Lightcrawler suddenly appears in the path of the bolt, and is instantly popsiclized. “Idiot!” says 4th Degree, slapping her forehead. But her claw is still charged with frosty energy, which is instantly discharged into her own body, turning her into a nice ice sculpture. “683,482!” says an oblivious Baboon Army.

While the battle unfolds around her, The Veil is busy getting the Death Ray online. “Crap! Why won’t this stupid thing work?” Lightning flashes, and dun-dun-DUUN plays another dramatic chord. “Stop that! Make yourself useful, and help me with the Death Ray! Khaldan, Sushi Man, you two stand guard while we get the Death Ray working.”

While the villains tinker with their doomsday device, The Emperor has gathered the surviving heroes. Baboon Army, Meatloaf Boy, HyramGraff, Inkman, Captain Catastrophe, Roadie Dude and The Emperor surround the Circle of Bad Guys, outnumbering them almost two to one. “It’s over, villains,” says The Emperor. “Surrender, and I promise you will get a fair trial.” “Surrender?” says The Veil. “I think not. We may be outnumbered, but you forget that villains always have an edge over heroes.” “And why is that?” asks The Emperor. “We cheat.” While The Veil was distracting the heroes, Khaldan has drawn a revolver. With six loud bangs, he empties his cylinder on The Emperor.

Now that the heroes have lost their leader, The Veil uses the ensuing chaos to finally activate the Death Ray. “Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational Death Ray!” She presses a button, and the Death Ray powers up. “How long is this supposed to take?” asks The Veil. “Uhh… it’s supposed to have fired by now,” says dun-dun-DUUN. “Oh wait, I see the problem. The firing chamber isn’t connected to the power capacitor. I’ll just attach this cable, and…” As dun-dun-DUUN attaches the power cable, the laser’s firing chamber suddenly glows bright red, and sparks burst from the device. With a fittingly spectacular explosion, the laser overloads, killing dun-dun-DUUN, Sushi Man and The Veil.

As for a theme, I think we should do Santa Claus' family vs. rogue elves.

A quick guideline to suitable themes for Team RAF:
- It should be a conflict with two distinct sides.
- It should either be a historical conflict, or something from pop/geek culture.
- Histrical conflicts shouldn't be too recent, and they shouldn't be relevant to modern day politics (so WWII is out for being too recent, and the crusades are out for being too political).
- I prefer serious or semi-serious themes over completely ridiculous ones. I'd rather make the theme funny than having to work with a ludicrous concept from the start.
- No mixing of themes - I like to keep to a single theme, so no 'Star Wars vs Star Trek' or 'Matrix Agents vs Teletubbies'.
- The theme should be widely known (or at least, widely known among geeks). Everyone knows Star Wars, but not everyone knows Warhammer 40k.

Remember, these are just guidelines. And they only apply to pirates.

Speaking of pirates, what about Pirates VS Navy? Not modern navy, more like the old British navy. Or a Merchant ship. Heavily guarded, of course.

“…damnit! Damnit!!” says Khaldan, seeing the last of his fellow villains fall. He is now surrounded by a group of angry heroes, whose leader he just shot. “Erm, listen,” he says, “I didn’t really mean to shoot The Emperor. It was an accident. Honest!” The heroes stare at Khaldan. “Let me get this straight,” says Meatloaf Boy, “you accidentally shot him in the chest.” “Yes!” “Six times.” “Uhm… look, a three headed monkey!” While the heroes look around, trying to get a glimpse of this legendary creature, Khaldan runs away. Unfortunately, he quickly runs out of rooftop, and again he is cornered.

Inkman walks up to the villain, saying: “Listen, just surrender, and we’ll…” suddenly, Khaldan lunges at Inkman, and lands a punch that makes the word ‘POW’ appear in big red letters. Ink staggers backwards, loses his footing, and falls over the edge of the rooftop. Captain Catastrophe is Khaldan’s next target. Planning a flying kick, he takes a running start, but fails to notice the conveniently placed banana peel lying in front of him. Khaldan slips, and tumbles over the edge. Within a fraction of a second, the villain crashes into the pavement below. “Wow, that was fast,” says Captain Catastrophe.

“Look,” says Meatloaf Boy, “the Emperor! He’s still alive!” The Emperor stands up, showing only a few token bruises. “And down there, all the other heroes who fell down the tower have also miraculously survived!” The Emperor turns to the camera. “Remember, kids: I survived because of plot armor. If you take six bullets to the chest, you’ll really be dead. So… uhm… don’t get shot, kids.”

“And so, the Spandex League has saved Urbopolis City once again,” says the narrator. “The Circle of Bad Guys has been defeated, and The Veil will never plague the city again…” Lightning flashes, and someone plays a dramatic chord. “…or will she?”
