So I want to play a d&d game but 3
5e seems to be the most popular here. The guide mentions a character sheet.

I have no money for books and whatnot. So what is the best way to make a character sheet?

I use myth-weavers.com to make my sheets.

In the old days, we had to use a pencil and a piece of paper.

I'm not sure if you intended to type 5e or 3.5e. No matter, this
(http://www.pathguy.com/ddnext.htm) is a great guide to build a character in both versions. It's also pretty decent at helping you build a 4e character, though that seems a bit unnecessary... 4e characters are super easy to build.

∆ Just in case the link didn't work...

You can also check out the Hypertext SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/) as a resource with most of the free content for 3.5 and 5e.

I use Microsoft Word but Google Docs are a good alternative.

You can also check out the Hypertext SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/) as a resource with most of the free content for 3.5 and 5e.

Note that while the 3.5 one is fairly complete, the 5e one is missing a number of things (such as most subclasses, subraces, backgrounds and feats). In addition, neither of the sites has advice on how to actually create a character.

If you're playing 5e, this document (http://media.wizards.com/2014/downloads/dnd/playerdndbasicrules_v0.2.pdf) may also help.

Okay what is the character sheet/builder/etc. With the most races? My fiance just joined and wants to make a kitsune, but can't find a builder of online character sheet comparable with it. [Humanoid Fox character]
