Hello everyone!

I need some help. I'm joining a campaign soon and I have no idea what I want to build. I know I want to a Blaster Caster of some kind but there are so many different choices in 3.5 that I'm not sure what is in which books. It's also been a good while since the last time I played so I've forgotten some stuff.

It's starting lvl 3.
Mid-high min-maxing.
3rd party books need to be approved.
Ultimately I'm looking for something fun, not game breaking.

Thank you everyone!

You could just build a standard Mailman build. Arcane Thesis on Orb of Force, stack metamagic feats.

Depending on the campaign, the standard mailman build could be overpowered. But blaster sorcerer is a good choice. Psion (kineticist) is also great. Wizard can do as well, conjurer and evoker work fine (evoker is frowned upon sometimes as 'too weak', but imo it's fine).

Just combine a number of relevant feats (spell thematics, a relevant reserve feat, (greater) spell focus, draconic power, draconic heritage, draconic aura, some metamagic like quicken, twin, empower or invisible spell), with a relelevant class (sor or wiz, consider domain wizard from UA, or a (focussed) specialist), and a prestige class that increases caster level (master specialist, archmage, ultimate magus).... you'll do fine.

I would reccomend base it off Orb of Fire and get Arcane Thesis, become incantatrix and with some easy metamagic feats use a Maximized Empowered Energy admixture Cold Searing Piercing Cold Orb of Fire.

How long do you think the campaign will last? One of the best ways to blast during the early levels is to crank your caster level sky-high, so that your individual spells have oomph.

You have 3 feats (human, 1, 3) if you don't want to use flaws. Bloodline of fire is a no-frills +2 to CL for fire spells. Elemental Spellcasting is another +1. Primitive Casting gives you another +1. Spellgifted is a trait from Unearthed Arcana that gives you +1 CL to a school, and -1 CL to other schools. UA also has the Energy Affinity ACF for Evokers, for another +1 CL to any elemental spell (hint: pick fire). Now you cast fire spells with CL 8. Pick up lesser orb of fire and pyrotechnics and scorching ray and pew pew pew your lasers.

Arcanist's Gloves from the Magic Item Compendium give +2 CL for a 1st level spell twice a day. You can also bug your DM to let you take Reserves of Strength from Dragonlance.

The Mailman (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?447435-quot-The-Mailman-A-Direct-Damage-Sorcerer-quot-(from-Wizards-forums)), for reference

Warmage also makes a decent basis for a blaster-caster, and is probably the easiest. Take Arcane Disciple, buy a Runestaff (Magic Item Compendium) or two, or take a level of Sand Shaper (Sandstorm) to expand your spell list a bit. Take Practical Metamagic, take Arcane Thesis, take levels in Incantrarix for more abuse, and shoot off all the fireballs.

Psions are also fantastic blasters, often better than arcanists. You don't need to pick many direct damage powers because each energy power is four-in-one; you can also get crystal blasts that ignore energy resistance completely. Grab Empower Power and Metapower and you can start Empowering every blast you throw, for free, as early as level 1. (Though you'll need Psionic Meditation at 5th or 6th to make it repeatable). If you want to get intense, Linked Power makes the action economy start to really work for you from low levels, even without doing the Linked Synchronicity trick.*

For real oomf, try something like Azurin Psion (Kineticist) 3, taking Empower Power, Metapower, and Linked Power at 1st level, and Midnight Augmentation at 3rd. At 5th use your second bonus feat to nab Psionic Meditation. As a fun option, at ECL 6 take a level of Binder, bind Naeberius, and take the Body Fuel feat-- now you not only have cheap metapsionics and augmentation, you can freely recharge your power points.

*Because it took me some time to work out:
Round 1: Cast Synch A linked to Synch B
Round 1, later: Synch A grants an action
Round 2: Synch B manifests; take your actionto manifest another power linked to Synch C
Round 2, later: Synch B grants an action
Round 3+: As Round 2

A recent one I've been using that I like is Azurin(or Dragonspawn Abomination Kobold) Sorcerer 1/Psychic Adept 4/Cerebramancer 5/Mental Mage 10. Go with the Azure Talent/Minight Augmentation/Psionic Maditation technique and you can have access to a small selection of 5th level or lower spells from any list or powers from a small list at will as full round actions plus 16 Sorc casting. Pick a theme and rock it. Of course this is better with StP Erudite and Wizard, but more complicated. Technically speaking, you can get even earlier entry(this one is assuming Precocious Apprentice), but I figure 6th lvl is fair, it's when most PrCs are enterable anyway.
