Ok, anyways, orbit. The flashback turns back to the galaxy. Alright, now, if you go high enough, beyond the sky, there's no heaven. Eventually, you'll reach a very, very cold place with no air to breathe, and no sound. And pressure. Lots of pressure.

Metis
2007-07-20, 11:38 PM
Maia nods, still listening.

Therarde
2007-07-20, 11:39 PM
You mean you don't hit some weird barrier or get smitten? Huh.

Artemis97
2007-07-20, 11:40 PM
"Actually, there is no pressure. It's a complete vacuum. No air, no nothing, except harsh radiation from the sun and stars."

blackout
2007-07-20, 11:40 PM
That, ladies and gentlemen, is space. Space is bad, unless your prepared. The space, around the planet- that's what it's called, the place you live on, it's not flat, it's round and really big- anyways, the space around the planet is called orbit.

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-20, 11:41 PM
"No, they fall off the edge of the universe."

blackout
2007-07-20, 11:41 PM
Lil, please shut him up. :smallannoyed:

blademaster42
2007-07-20, 11:41 PM
I thought everyone knew Heaven was in another dimension...

Metis
2007-07-20, 11:43 PM
Oh. Is there any reason why they named it that, or did they just do it? And what does this have to do with guns?
Maia seems to understand it all, excluding the guns.

blackout
2007-07-20, 11:44 PM
It doesn't, the guy from the stone age here asked. He points at Iko.

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-20, 11:44 PM
"Guns are simple, you point, you pull, thing dies."

blackout
2007-07-20, 11:45 PM
Ok, look, why do you continue to involve yourself in this conversation? :smallannoyed: Your not serving any practically purpose. Get drunk, and let me do the talking.

Artemis97
2007-07-20, 11:45 PM
Lillith casts a silence spell on Rex. "Heaven is a different dimension, Space is a continuation of the world we live in, still a part of the Prime Material Plane."

Metis
2007-07-20, 11:46 PM
Maia nods in understanding.
Okay. Well, I pretty much knew all of that except for the name 'orbit.' I guess they don't have it in draconic...

blademaster42
2007-07-20, 11:47 PM
Iko looks offended at the stone age crack Hey! My people are not grunting caveman, 'kay? We use metal, not rock. I'm pretty sure we aren't in the stone age. He looks at Maia What's draconic have to do with it?

blackout
2007-07-20, 11:48 PM
Funny, cus you didn't know about crossbows.

Artemis97
2007-07-20, 11:48 PM
"Orbit, like an orb, a circle, such as how the moon is in orbit around this planet. Other things are also circleing the planet, ships and the like."

Therarde
2007-07-20, 11:49 PM
Waitwaitwait, is there a point to this "space" thing, or is it just kind of there?

blademaster42
2007-07-20, 11:50 PM
Iko stands. That's. E. Nough. He sits back down, looking sullen.

blackout
2007-07-20, 11:50 PM
Yeah, there's a point. Space travel.

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-20, 11:50 PM
"Theoretically, the Celestial bodies we refer to as Heaven and hell are actually planets. There are a few books on the subject, for instance, Auqina and the water plane may be one and the same. It is also versed that outer planes may actually be a lost system out there, protected by gods and magic. Of course, there isn't much evidence, since the writer of the book didn't travel to either planet, and just looked trough a telescope." Rex says, "O! And don't try a weak spell like that on me again, I'm enjoying myself, and you don't want me angry."

blackout
2007-07-20, 11:52 PM
Shut UP already, would ya?! :smallannoyed: Now, anyways, if you were to simply go up into space right now, you would die. But there's a way to travel from planet-to-planet, without magic.

Therarde
2007-07-20, 11:52 PM
...Telescope?

Metis
2007-07-20, 11:53 PM
Whether they are planets or not is actually pretty debatable, from what I hear. I haven't studied much on it myself.
Maia smiles prettily.

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-20, 11:54 PM
"Are you asking what a telescope is? Have you ever left this bar before?"

blackout
2007-07-20, 11:54 PM
Oh, for the love of-NOT IMPORTANT! :smallfurious:

blademaster42
2007-07-20, 11:55 PM
What, an airtight crate? that would keep the air from escaping into the vacuum...

Metis
2007-07-20, 11:55 PM
Maia quiets and looks meek.
Sorry.

Therarde
2007-07-20, 11:56 PM
Wait, why would you want to go to these other planets? What's the use?

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-20, 11:57 PM
"Yes, but air can become used, and you find yourself breathing less and less usable air. It's similar to being under the sea. Just to confuse the hell out of everyone, can I bring up Relativity in Space Travel?"

blackout
2007-07-20, 11:57 PM
Anyways, no. Not a crate. A self-propelled, airtight, hardened-steel craft commonly known as a space-ship, or starship. The use, to want to go to other planets, my good man, is simple. I'll explain later. And everyone just ignore that guy, he wants to be annoying.

blademaster42
2007-07-20, 11:57 PM
iko leans over to Therarde (as far as he can without leaving his seat)It's a tube with some glass in it. it's framed in there, and it makes stuff look bigger. Easier to see things on the ocean.

Turns his attention back to Moose. Ah, but I was close!

Artemis97
2007-07-20, 11:58 PM
Lillith narrows her eyes at Rex. "Fine, no more silence spells, so long as you don't claim to know more about the Hells and the Abyss than I do." Her wings flutter slightly in annoyance.

blackout
2007-07-20, 11:59 PM
Actually, you were so far from being close, it's funny. :smallamused:

Therarde
2007-07-20, 11:59 PM
So, you're saying that with one of those ship-thingys, you could get pretty much wherever the hell you want?

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-21, 12:00 AM
"Having Lived in a place doesn't mean you know about it. These people here are a perfect example of that. Yes, Spaceships have filters that recycle air. It isn't that simple. There is a lot of debris in space, and a nice hit from something as small as a pebble when going near-lightspeed can send you far, far off course. It's like say that because you have a boat, you can navigate anywhere on the sea."

Metis
2007-07-21, 12:02 AM
Maia nods, seeing the possibilities and interest.
Wouldn't it just be easier to use magic though?

blademaster42
2007-07-21, 12:03 AM
Iko grumbles irritably. At least I didn't guess a giant catapult...

He turns to Maia well, for magic users it might, but not everyone can use magic

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-21, 12:04 AM
"How expensive is it to send entire populations through interplaner gates?"

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:04 AM
No, it would not, not unless you actually knew where you were going. If you didn't, you could end up dealing with alot of hard vacuum. That's where the space-ship comes in. Using a special engine called a hyperdrive, you can explore all over the galaxy, and get coordinates for the magical travelers.

Therarde
2007-07-21, 12:04 AM
Therarde seems almost disappointed at Rex's explanation, but quickly hides it.

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:06 AM
Bottom line, space travel has LOTS of benefits. Say there's a plague, ok? There's no possible way to cure it. THEN, when you go into space, to just poke around, lo and behold, you find a planet that grows a plant, which proves to be the key to curing the plague. :smallamused:

Metis
2007-07-21, 12:06 AM
Maia frowns, not sure she agrees, but she does have to admit she had never really done much interplanatary travel.

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-21, 12:07 AM
"Hyperdrive works best on trade-routes. The backwater places that haven't been explored and mapped by hyperdrive can get really dangerous. Sigh, and do you use an Improbability generator as well?"

blademaster42
2007-07-21, 12:08 AM
Or, if it had no cure, it would provide a place for the uninfected survivors to move to.

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:08 AM
Ok, point. Still, that's another interesting factor: Trade. If you encounter another species that happens to have the same technology as you, or even better, a primitive race, you can open relations and trade with them.

Therarde
2007-07-21, 12:08 AM
Hmmm... Therarde thinks for a moment.

Metis
2007-07-21, 12:09 AM
Maia catches on.
So... when did you get here?

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:09 AM
And that's where the specialized ships come in. Like freighters. They can carry cargo to other worlds, and warships can protect them, just like down here on the sea-Uh...couple of weeks ago, why?

blademaster42
2007-07-21, 12:10 AM
Iko seems offended at how Moose would take advantage of such a culture.

Therarde
2007-07-21, 12:10 AM
Is there any way for someone like me to get into space?

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-21, 12:11 AM
Ironic, since he is that culture. Rex just smiles at Moose's underestimation of such cultures.

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:12 AM
Sure. Anyone can do it. All ya need is a starship, or a starship construction facility and the neccessary materials. Then comes the tricky part: Actually figuring out how to fly the thing.

Metis
2007-07-21, 12:12 AM
Have you established any good trade relations yet?

blademaster42
2007-07-21, 12:13 AM
(( No, it'd be ironic if he supported such exploitation. Get your literary terms straight.))

Therarde
2007-07-21, 12:13 AM
Oh. :smallfrown:

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:13 AM
Well, I haven't established trade relations, personally, anyways. I'm a fighter-pilot, not a diplomat. :smallannoyed: I used to be with a space-going group of humans called the Alliance. We were caught up in a war that was going on a hundred years, with a group called the Coalition.

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-21, 12:14 AM
"And Vespene Gas, havest more Vespene Gas"

((Tragic (or dramatic) irony occurs when a character on stage or in a story is ignorant, but the audience watching knows his or her eventual fate, as in Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet.))

blademaster42
2007-07-21, 12:15 AM
Vespene Gas?
((really, do we need a starcraft reference? And that would be if he didn't know he came from primitive culture. Which Iko is currently painfully aware of.))

Therarde
2007-07-21, 12:15 AM
((Starcraft FTW))

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:16 AM
Yeah, Vespene Gas is a major component in starship fuel. Very abundant on certain planets. Thank you.

Metis
2007-07-21, 12:16 AM
Maia nods, having learned what she wanted.
Well okay then. So how many ships are up there in orbit? What are they doing up there?

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:17 AM
About...I dunno. Anywhere from 20000 to 70000. I really dunno. Their really just...not doing anything...I guess, I mean, they WERE going to retake the town from AMEN, but their kinda holding position.

Therarde
2007-07-21, 12:18 AM
AMEN? Who?

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:19 AM
Oi....Ok, that'll come later.

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-21, 12:19 AM
"The question is why do you need to take the town from AMEN? Really, I'm just annoyed at all these acronyms taking over the town. What we need is to have Townsfolk just start running the everyday things."

Metis
2007-07-21, 12:19 AM
Maia nods again and just sips her lemonade, not having any more to say.

blademaster42
2007-07-21, 12:20 AM
Could I learn to drive one? of the space ships I mean. In time to fight AMEN that is.

Artemis97
2007-07-21, 12:20 AM
Lillith blinks. "Don't you run AMEN?" She asks Rex.

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:21 AM
Sure ya can. Moose turns to Rex, an expression on his face that says 'we have a winner!' EXACTLY! Thank you, that's why the TDI's back, actually.

Therarde
2007-07-21, 12:22 AM
I'm probably going to regret asking, but, TDI?

blademaster42
2007-07-21, 12:22 AM
Wait, bottle shooter runs AMEN?

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:22 AM
Town Defense Initiative, the guys in orbit. Their here to help...Wait, THIS GUY runs AMEN?! :smalleek:

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-21, 12:22 AM
"I do. I'm worried for the towns future, though, everyone wants to take it, but who deserves it? No one is willing to do the everyday things, and the military protection organizations are what holds ground. But they only stive for one purpose, to be eliminated by the next organization."

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:23 AM
Is that why your buddies have been murdering and pillaging all over town? :smallannoyed:

Therarde
2007-07-21, 12:23 AM
Since you know about those, I'm going to assume you're one of them. He looks over at Rex. Maybe that's why I'm unaffiliated.

blademaster42
2007-07-21, 12:24 AM
Iko puts his hand on his sword, but doesn't draw it. He gives everyone, including Rex, a "what should I do now?" look.

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:24 AM
Moose motions for him to not draw his sword.

Metis
2007-07-21, 12:25 AM
Maia scoots away from everyone so she can think for herself.

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-21, 12:26 AM
"TDI? Wasn't that the oppressive organization #82 that pissed everyone off? I've ben trying to enlist people for simple activities in the town. For one, I would like to be able to sit in a tavern for ten minutes before someone busts through the door and shoots me!"

blademaster42
2007-07-21, 12:26 AM
He takes his hand off his sword. What does AMEN stand for?

Artemis97
2007-07-21, 12:26 AM
Lillith nods to Rex. "You make a lot of sense, but what can be done to stop the fighting? I have a feeling that the TDI won't stop until AMEN is gone, or in a full retreat, and some of your collegues are just as bloodthirsty."

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:28 AM
Lil, the TDI would've invaded by now if they wanted to just toss AMEN out. Something about an election.

blademaster42
2007-07-21, 12:29 AM
What if we put weapon restriction bracelets on all of them? then, at least, they couldn't participate.

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-21, 12:29 AM
"If there is one thing about AMEN is their short attention spans. What you have to do is revive the old ways of the town, serious roleplay, de-privatize the police, and start hunting down killer and enforcing laws."

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:30 AM
Hey, we intend to do that, except for the police thing. All we're gonna do is let the townies be in charge of how they run their town. We're just gonna protect 'em.

Therarde
2007-07-21, 12:30 AM
Therarde is hit by deadtime because it's around 12:30. AM.

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-21, 12:31 AM
"Your protection is worthless, by being private, you impose your own laws on whoever you feel. That is not justice."

Metis
2007-07-21, 12:32 AM
Maia just listens.

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:32 AM
No, dude, your not getting it. WE'RE NOT GONNA BE THE POLICE ANYMORE. We're gonna gather up some real townies, and let THEM make a fresh police force. Townies that like to keep the law up and running. The TDI will be the town's defense force, and the townies...do whatever townies do.

Artemis97
2007-07-21, 12:33 AM
"He has a point, the DELTA police wouldn't even give that one guy a trial."

Admiral_Kelly
2007-07-21, 12:34 AM
(( Rex, please don't metegame unless it's funny. Promote serious roleplaying by example. As a side note, I have made efforts of hunting down criminals; for instance twelve armed rebels are stationed at the tavern at all times. See this thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50589). ))

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-21, 12:35 AM
"Listen, when I got here, I was assaulted by TDI for my loose association with AMEN outside the Town, I have yet not done anything but in self-defense. And again, your organization is made fore war, and that is all it's going to get. No point to it."

((^Yay! Invasive Security!))

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:36 AM
Actually, yeah there is a point to it. Say, some mindflayer tries to take over the town through guerilla tactics, and the police are having a hard time. Send in the TDI. As for the whole attack thing, I have no idea how that happened, that was before I showed up, alright? And, I have word, you guys threatened to take over the town by force if we didn't hand it over to you, either way, the town loses.

((Seriously, dude, what are you talking about? :smallconfused: ))

Metis
2007-07-21, 12:36 AM
Maia gets confused and decides she needs to sleep before she can understand any of this. She teleports away.

Draken
2007-07-21, 12:37 AM
Back in his castle, of course Draken is watching with his scrying giant-screen.

Look, the old discussion, who is the real villain.

Well, this place is boring, time to teleport into Trog's.

------------------------

Back to Trog's, once in a whyle, Draken teleports normaly, no overbudgeted special effects this time.

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-21, 12:39 AM
"Anyways, that's what PCs are for. Let them have their fun saving the world."

((Crap, didn't hear that...))

blademaster42
2007-07-21, 12:40 AM
Serious... Roleplay... what?

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:40 AM
The TDI has plenty of PCs and NPCs. And, something tells me the mindflayer would be a PC, and no one would really care. Either way, the TDI needs to be down here. We won't be the police. We don't make the law. Let the townies govern themselves. We're the military, not the police or the government. That's gonna be the way it stays.

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-21, 12:45 AM
"I understand your point. Power never corrupts, and people won't be shaken down and shot at for their supposed connections to a potential threat. The police should handle that stuff. The military, being seperate from the Police draws it's own lines. But where? Can we trust them? AMEN was only able to take over the Town due to it's submissive people and weak, unsupported 'Protectors.' AMEN has tried invasions before. The police are enough to stop them."

Artemis97
2007-07-21, 12:45 AM
"So basically, both sides want AMEN to stop holding control over the Town, and the TDI to not police it either. And the PCs need to start taking responsibility for the crime, basically reinstating the Police and enforcing the laws as written. Right?"

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:47 AM
I see your point, but the town NEEDS the TDI. An alien invasion? PCs and the police won't be enough for that. Armed rebellion? Yeah, TDI needs to be involved. Self-defense because of psycho vigilantes? Hell yes.

Good going Moose, you've degraded yourself by becoming a diplomat. :smallannoyed:

blademaster42
2007-07-21, 12:47 AM
PC's... NPC's... what? you? talkin? about?

((GUYS, YOU'RE STEADILY DRIVING HIM MAD HERE!))

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-21, 12:47 AM
"Exactly! Build a strong police force and kick AMEN out with the support of the people, not arms!"

blackout
2007-07-21, 12:48 AM
Well, you guys seemed like you only showed up to drive out the TDI. I have to ask, why bother? :smallconfused:

Rex Idiotarum
2007-07-21, 12:49 AM
. Self-defense because of psycho vigilantes? . [/COLOR]

"Irony!" Rex says, still casually leaning in his chair. "O! How did the Town get along without the TDI? Rather successfully, actually."

Artemis97
2007-07-21, 12:49 AM
((Sorry, but this really needs to be resolved, I apologize for the meta-gaming.))

"No, Moose, PCs need to handle major things like that, That's why we're here. If some gigantic space fleet takes out every threat to the Town, we have no purpose."

Draken
2007-07-21, 12:51 AM
Draken sits down at the chair that Maia left empty, he would look amused if his face wasn't hidden by a helmet.

blackout

Draken
2007-07-21, 01:03 AM
Break apart? Moose, you weren't here on the begining. The TDi was a gathering of the largest armyes in the Town at the time, The BR, the IG, Haydn of the Moon, the Thieve's Guild, The FE, and guess what, Me.

That original setup has disbanded some time ago, Haydn, the Thieve's Guild and I have turned neutral sorta.... The FE hasn't given notice for some time, only the BR and the IG are still with a fixed alliance.

Edit: To Lillith.

There are actually many laws that must be added. In Pelgof's trial I had to use contempt of court to punish them, but that mockery of the judicial system should have had it's own category!

Perhaps the TDI could be a militia of sorts. A volunteer group of townies without a standing base. They could be contacted in emergencies.

"Really, because a few months ago the town didn't have such threats or armies. How is that?"

Artemis97
2007-07-21, 01:35 AM

Moose, there was an army of zombies that came out of nowhere outside this bar not many hours ago.

There are murderous tentacles that sprout of the floor of this place every time someone says a specific word.

There is the Order of Anarchy, Shar'all, Nightwing's mad characters out there, every single one of these is a threat to the peace in the Town, if there is one thing that will never run out, is fight situations.

I do know that it seems to be a completely different plane than where anybody here is from, and that most everyone got here by some uncontrollable circumstance. Also, you can meet literally anything here. I've met fiends, kobolds, dragons, even people who supposedly know about this "space" thing.

Clar recovers from dead time.

Well, Therarde it, was nice meeting you and thank you for saving me from the mugging attempt.

*He stands up*

I need to explore this place a bit, see you later

*He walks to the door*

Lillith wakes from deadtime and looks around the Tavern, wondering if there was anyone who could ally with her in the building today.

Lord Magtok

Magtok walks in the door, grumbling about some castrated general of the TDI, a squid-faced lady, and a madman on a pogo stick. All of which are actual people in the Town.

"Having a bad day, Magtok?" Lillith asks the cyborg.

Rex Idiotarum

"Magtok, I'll need several EMPs, some Anti-Force Devices, and some massive robots for taking back the Police Station."

((Did I mention how Evil Rex is?))

Therarde, assuming Clar hasn't left yet, throws a small bag over to him. If he looks inside he should see several gold coins in it, as well as some silver and copper for good measure. He turns to Lillith and nods.

((Oh yes, real evil, helping to restore peace and all  ))

Lillith smiles at Therarde, and nods in agreement with Rex. "We're going to need all the help we can get to out the Order of Anarchy."

Order of Anarchy? Seems to ring a bell...

Thank you, may our paths cross again.

Artemis appears.
I'd stay away from the station if I were you. Shadowbow is dangerously close to losing control again.
