Protection Magic Character Help

Hey all,

I'm looking to make a defensive magic focused character. The party currently has a Barbarian, a Bladelock, a Longbow Ranger, and a Longbow Bard...all 5th level.

I liked the way wards worked in Skyrim and I love the shield spell, and I'm also a fan of abjuration wizard. Are there any MC alternatives to a straight Abjuration wizard? What is the most optimized protection magic build I can make?

All UA and WOTC materials are allowed, as are all races.

Abjurer all the way. Projected Ward, Globe of Invulnerability, Counterspell, Absorb Elements, Shield, Protection from Energy, Spell Resistance... can't go wrong.

Either Pally for defense, or Fighter 2/Abjurer 18 or Cleric 1/Abjurer 19. Ive played a lvl 20 oneshot with the latter. Advantage against magic, half damage from magic, and a 32 AC.
