I am not going to name it a specific number but one of my favorite romantic movies is Hancock just for the scene of the consequences of calling your special lady a crazy lady and the after effects of what happens when your lady is called a crazy lady :smallwink:

Not ranked in order, and not necessarily full on romance films, but here are some off the top of my head:

Beauty and the Beast (the animated one, haven't seen the live action flick)
Brokeback Mountain
Casablanca
Elizabethtown (which, for all its faults, I am still always moved by)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Garden State (one of my utter favs)
Lost in Translation (no romance in my eyes and yet still so romantic)
Love Actually
What Dreams May Come
When Harry Met Sally

The 'before' series with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy... Before sunrise and its sequels.
I also liked Love Actually and What Dreams May Come

I'm gonna throw in Secret life of walter mitty, Stranger than Fiction, and Don't Tell Her It's Me.

And of course... The Counte of Monte Cristo

I can think of only one Romance movie I've watched all the way through, so...

1. Her

I've always considered myself a romantic at heart, in fact it's a trait that seems to surprise people that believe they know me, so narrowing down just 10 is rather difficult; but I'll try.

Nevermind, it's been brought to my attention that 7 of my top 10 are just straight pornography; so I'll trim the list down to a lean 3.

3. Misery: Sure, she doesn't end up with her man, BUT she put herself out there and that's what's important.

2. A Boy And His Dog: Not the porno. It's a classic coming of age story, but effective. Boy meets girl; boy follows girl into secret underground utopia... I don't want to give the ending away, but the way their relationship develops is just delicious.

1. Alien: Goes without saying really. Taught me everything I know about the birds and the bees.

Leap Year or The Notebook. Both are good movies

Do I even own ten romance movies? Let's check.

Hancock
King Kong
Chasing Amy
Forrest Gump
Rush Hour
The Fifth Element
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Corpse Bride
Megamind
Despicable Me 2

Look at that! I do! Though, including my Disney collection would cause that number to jump significantly.

In no particular order Sense and Sensibility (the one with Emma Thompson), While You Were Sleeping, You Got Mail, That Thing You Do, and My Big Fat Greek Wedding are probably my favourite romantic movies. Most are romantic comedies, but, hey, I like to laugh, while I eagerly await a forgone conclusion. It's the journey, not the destination.:smalltongue:
EDIT: Oh god, how did I forget Princess Bride! That is . . . . a tragic but entirely possible event that can easily be conceived as happening.
I just hope it does not put a damper on our relationship.

You know I get so wrapped up in watching dancing Russians conducting a violent pogrom against singing Jews I forget that the story majorly involves 3 main romances.

I suppose I get to add Fiddler to my list of romantic movies I enjoy. I'm now at 2.

What are we counting as a romantic movie? That's not an entirely facetious question. Some of my favourite films are those where a romance forms an important, even critical, part of the plot, but would not typically be considered "romantic films".

Most notably, Once Upon a Time in the West.
Also Amélie, less controversially.

Those are two of my five favourite films/film series anyway. Other films that I'll mention:

Casablanca
Doctor Zhivago
Easter Parade
When Harry Met Sally
Intolerable Cruelty
True Romance
Shakespeare in Love
Chinatown - ok, this is pushing it now.

That's ten.

My wife and I spent so many nights watching Romcoms after the kids went to bed, it's hard to pick . So although there are probably better movies out there, here is a list of Romances I will watch whenever they come on.

1) Casablanca (1942)
2) Cyrano de Bergerac (1950)
3) Somewhere in Time (1980)
4)The Princess Bride (1987)
5) Pretty Woman (1990)
6) Much Ado About Nothing (1993)
7) Shadowlands (1993)
8) 4 Weddings and a Funeral (1994)
9) A Walk in the Clouds (1995)
10) Pride and Prejudice (2005)

And of course... The Counte of Monte Cristo

I wonder if you have ever read the novel? It is better than the film, but the ending of the romance plot is totally and shockingly different.

1. The Remains of the Day
2. Love Actually
3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
4. Ghost
5. My Big Fat Greek Wedding
6. Sleepless in Seattle
7. Titanic
8. Annie Hall
9. Groundhog Day
10. Amelie

Honorable Mention: Bridget Jones' Diary

[I consider The Princess Bride more of an adventure than a romance. YMMV]

1. She's the Man
2. Cruel Intentions
3. Edward Scissorhands

That's probably about it, really.

I'll have to think about a full list, but Princess Bride is #1, and Joe vs the Volcano is on somewhere.

At first I had trouble coming up with ten titles. But when I really started to think, I had trouble winnowing the list down to ten. In no particular order, I'm gonna name:

Casablanca
Cyrano de Bergerac
The Princess Bride
The African Queen
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Singin' in the Rain
Gone With the Wind
Brief Encounter
The Crying Game
About a Boy

1 - Chasing Amy.

A great movie, with a lot of important lessons that all dudes should learn. Most important - Don't be Holden McNeill.

2 - 500 Days of Summer

And that's about it. Hollywood does not do romance very well at all.

I just got back from seeing Your Name. I don't know if I would put it in my top 10 list, but it is pretty good and it fits the category.

Balderdash, I say! Hollywood does Romance so well, that most people seek it's version of Romance over the real life romances seen everyday.

Singin' in the Rain

I considered Singin' in the Rain but the romantic element to it was so minor I actually forgot it was there, so I struggled to consider it a romantic film - even by the standards of the rest of my list.
