I'm currently playing in a DnD 3.5 game with a whole slew of weird house rules -- but since I don't want those rules to be the focus of my replies, I'm not going to go into detail, since it shouldn't matter. In short: I'm able to 'absorb' the abilities of creatures (Special Attacks, Special Qualities, Natural Weapons, Movement Modes, Spell Like Abilities, but no natural Spellcasting) but suffer a cost based on the base CR of the creature. Anything with a Saving Throw or Level-Based Calculation would be scaled to my level -- so even effects from weak monsters would become relevant. Two things I'd love to include on my character are Regeneration and Claws -- and I'd like to see about getting those at the smallest 'cost' (CR) possible, whether it's from a single monster or a pair of monsters, as long as the cost is low.

Claws will likely be sized down to Medium, but those with exceptionally high damage, or other benefits (such as Frostwind Virago or Shadow Demons) would be great since I'd also gain those. For the Regeneration, I'm more interested in small/controllable 'banes' than I am in high numbers -- both both are good to consider. I'd accept a higher 'cost' for added abilities that are earned from this.

The GM is allowing anything printed for 3.5, anything for 3.0 (that hasn't been updated), and even Pathfinder stuff is considered pretty generously.

Hopefully anybody else finds this fun and is willing to help me out!

So, you're playing a Final Fantasy Blue Mage?

I'm no monster specialist, but the Troll has both covered at CR 5.

Edit: A cat has claws for 1/4 CR, and a tendriculos (CR 6) has regen 10, plant traits (and all the immunities that come with it), a paralyzing touch, improved grab and swallow whole (because why not;) )

The runehound from MM3 nets you: Damage reduction 5/silver, extended reach, fast healing 3, psychic scent (supernatural +20 to survival to track), and uncanny blindsight (blindsight 500 and immunity to flanking), a cool acid spit attack that can have a Web affect, and a move speed of 50 if that's included in your gained movement modes.

All for the low low cost of CR3.

Pixies get natural greater invisibility and arrow that can put anything to sleep at CR 4. The sleep arrow DC likely scales with your level and cha, and can be argued to work on anything even normally immune to sleep (ask DM), or that doesn't need/cannot sleep. You also get decent flight and some spell likes that are nice.

There is also an aberration from monsters of faerun that lets you make a copy of any creature you have ate (see tendrilicious), that is CR 8 or 9. I no longer have the book sadly. A lot of weird good stuff there.

Any swarm that is fine or diminutive makes you immune to weapon damage.
