I'm looking to create a character in D&D 3.5e that is similar to Marvel's Gambit or Riot Games' Twisted Fate, a character who fights with magic infused cards. What would be the best way to go about doing this?

I don't know that much about Gambit other than he uses cards to slice through people. For example, I don't know whether he likes his liquor or not. This could be important if you decide to use the Drunken Master PrC to deal a decent amount of damage with your cards.
Master Thrower could be another interesting PrC.
There are rules to refluff the aesthetic of your spells into other things. Make a caster and focus on spells that can replicate Gambit's abilities. Take Fire Shuriken and call it Fire Cards, it can be very effective if you stack one or two metamagic feats on it.
There are a bunch of threads on the forums on the subject, I've found some by googling "site:giantitp.com gambit cards" but you can probably find more with better search terms. In the meantime, have (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?348215-Character-using-cards) a (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?251139-Gambit-3-5) few (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?362547-Gambit-in-3-5).

Y'know, probably would have been a good idea for me to use google-fu to search and see if this has been done before posting this thread eh? Nonetheless, thanks for the advice! I think artificer may work out as well, being able to infuse a deck of cards, though I need to check that to be sure.

If you plan to just infuse magic into your cards instead of throwing them arounds like miniature vorpal swords, you can go down the Yu-Gi-Oh! route and take the Runesmith PrC. Keep in mind that you'd end up as a dwarf Gambit, but it would be arguably worth it.

Well, Pathfinder has the Card Caster (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/magus/archetypes/paizo---magus-archetypes/card-caster-magus-archetype/), which could probably be back-ported, but that's not super helpful for 3.5. Your best bet would probably be something like, uh... I want to say Arcane Archer 2 for Imbued Arrow, but that's specifically arrows...

How about Ardent (with Magic Mantle to force compatibility)/Soulknife 2/Soubow 2/Arcane Archer 2? Reflavor your mind arrows as cards, then stick psionic blasts in them. Practiced Manifester can make up for a lot of those lost caster levels...

Pathfinder's third party book Gonzo 2 has the croupier which does exactly what you're describing in my opinion. It gains the ability to chuck cards around to hurt and debuff its enemies and heal its allies.

I've never known Gambit to run out of cards to throw, so I'd probably build him as a Warlock.

Yeah, Gambit runs out of cards sometimes. The thing is, he can throw more then just cards. He can charge up and throw anything he can pick up. He can charge up anything he can touch to blow up. So yeah, I don't know how you can work that into the game.

I dunno, how about Throw Anything + Greater Psionic Shot?

"Charge it up" => gaining Psionic Focus.

That's not a bad thought. Slap that on Psychic Warrior to get a bunch of mobility and self-enhancement powers that help you with Gambit's acrobatic combat schtick. Pick up Psionic Charm with a feat or Mantled Warrior; Gambit had some sort of subconscious charm power, I think.

His initial appearances definitely imply he has some sort of charm ability. He also got a staff from Forge at some point which he could channel his power through, so perhaps soulknife/soulbow with a custom blade shape would be a means to model this. There's also a point where he's written to have power over potentially all matter... Seems like a wizard power curve to me. The problem might be working in his thief skills there. In the video game X-Men: Detiny he acted as something of a spy master, so you could use his desire to make others do the dirty work as a way to keep out of multiclassing (he also made his gang wear dumb masks because it amused him).
