Note that in the frame before the arrow hits, Roy is falling (vertical "motion" lines) and in the next he's not. She pinned him to the wall of the chasm so he wouldn't fall beyond her reach. (The arrow hit in an unfortunate location, but apparently it was strong enough to support his weight.)

There was a rope tied to the arrow. That's how she pulled him up. (at least that's the way I interpreted it...)

I think she reacted as though there was a rope attached to the arrow, but since she panicked she wasnt thinking right. but i guess it pinned him to the wall.

My question is, how were they able to pull roy up and free the arrow from the rock it dug in? It should be firm enough in there to stop Roy from falling, how did they yank it out?

Well I'm not going to go in detailed physics of the situation again but that should be a hell of a pull. Not to mention "damage" to Roy's baby makers...

I too had to read this one a few times before I got what had happened. The fact that the "fast-motion lines" disappeared in the panel after Roy was shot is a kind of subtle cue on which to hinge an important point: that Roy is now pinned to the wall where Haley can lasso him at her leisure.

Perhaps a sound effect of "Pin!" would make the action clearer there (and would add its own little false-onomatopoeia joke too!)


Edit: why is it that I can spell "Vaarsuvius" right on the first try, but I can never spell "Haley"?
