This is going to be my first time DMing, and was wondering if anyone knew of a DM screen printout for the module. I've read it and it seems pretty straight forward, but I don't want to royally mess things up by missing an encounter or getting the number of enemies wrong.

I've looked for one online but was only able to find posts on how to make a DM screen...but as things usually go, someone else will probably find exactly what I'm looking for just by typing "L" into Google search.....

I cant help with a cheat sheet but I can tell you to worry a bit less.

Missing an encounter or miscounting enemies is not likely to screw up the module. Make sure you know the plot so that you can ensure the important plot encounters are there but then be a bit more relaxed.

5th Ed is fairly robust - if you miss something from an encounter add a few HP to the next one or something and it will all balance out. The exception is level 1 (and to a lesser extent level 2). Characters are delicate and adding more enemies will really risk the party - be careful here.

Probably not the most useful answer - but I hope you enjoy LMoP.

I'm not super worried about getting off track, I'm just not wanting to hold up the game while I'm looking for the stats of the creatures in an encounter. So I was hoping someone could point me toward a printout for the first part of the module (Ambush and Cragmaw Hideout) so I can get a feel for how it should look. Then I can make my own sheets to tape to my screen

There are like 3 different creatures in the first Chapter of LMoP: Goblin, Hobgoblin, Bugbear, Wolves. Among the 20ish enemies just one is a Hobgoblin Bugbear and 3 are wolves.

Really, the only preparation you need is to open the Monster Manual on the page of Goblins and bookmark the pages for Hobgoblin Bugbear and Wolf.

A more useful tool would be a cheatsheet for the major NPC in Phandalin. Try to know them and have them covered because it is very well possible that after the first ambush the players will decide to go to the town to rest: not every one will chase goblin in the bushes, leaving behind the cargo they are supposed to escort.

The party I'm taking over hasn't had a good track record with making the best decisions....or even good ones.

But in reading it, is the leader of the hideout a hobgoblin, or an owlbear?

The leader of the hideout is a bugbear.

Yes, sorry. I meant a bugbear, not hobgoblin. I always confuse the names.

The leader of the hideout is a bugbear.

I typed owlbear literally 2 minutes after reading bugbear in the module.

Now I want to run a module where an Owlbear runs a ring of thieves.
