I had an interesting situation today, where the wizard in my group decided to cast Spell Turning (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/spellTurning.htm) on herself, since the nalfeshnee (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/demon.htm) they were under attack by had tried to feeblemind (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/feeblemind.htm) her. Well, next round, it attempted it again since her magic missiles were pretty much the only thing doing damage to it, and the melees were mostly incapacitated from its smite attack.
My question is: does the nalfeshnee get its own spell resistance versus its own spell-like ability? The DMG states:
A creature’s spell resistance never interferes with its own spells, items, or abilities.
I thought the point might be moot if it made its saving throw, but it failed by one. I also thought it might be moot if I rolled spell resistance and it failed, but it succeeded on that, so I pretty much was forced to make a ruling on this one.
Much to the delight of the wizard, I ruled that it bypassed its own spell resistance, since it is its own spell.
I'm curious if anyone else has run into this, and whether there is actually anything written in any books on this particular scenario.
Cheers ;)
