View Full Version : Pathfinder optimizing channel negative energy?

I was thinking of a Dhamphir Cleric that takes selective channel (to spare my allies) and (lacking better ideas) Extra Channel to spam an effect that hurts enemies while healing myself.

Are there ways to be better at this? I know of a trait that raises the DC of the channel energy by 1.

Is there something else I should be doing to be better at this? Some maximize channel feat or something?

If you are allowed to use the VMC (variant multiclass rules), you can VMC Cavalier and take the Order of the Star. At 7th level you will get to add half your cavalier level (ie, character level) to your cleric level to determine your channel energy ability. So, 7th level, you will channel as a 10th level cleric.

Also, Phylactery of Positive Channeling will add another +2d6 when you attempt to heal the living. Negative Energy one adds +2d6 to harming others.

Channel Surge (feat) will allow you to empower your channel (+50%), but you have to spend a full round action and two channel attempts.

Versatile Channeler (feat) allows you to channel energy opposite of what you picked at first level, but at a lower cleric level. Also needed for below prestige class.

Envoy of Balance (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/other-paizo/e-h/envoy-of-balance/) can allow you (4 levels in) to channel energy to harm AND heal at the same time. Twinned Channeling in the ability.

Here ya go, the Hangover Cleric Guide. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?243016-Hangover-Cleric-Build-amp-Handbook-PF)

TL;DR, you use Variant Channeling (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/cleric/variant-channeling/) and pick a deity with Rulership or Ale/Wine in their portfolio. Now your negative channels deal half damage, but daze or nauseate creatures for 1 round. Beware: Hardcore lockdown like this can make the game very boring.

improved channel (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/improved-channel-final/) will increase your channel DC by two.

If you have a qualifying deity, forceful channel (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/forceful-channel/),conversion channel (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/conversion-channel/) andsiphon channel (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/siphon-channel/) are very good negative energy channeling feats.

You cant heal yourself while harming, you have to choose which when you use it. Same with positive energy and healing allies or harming undead. Might be a feat or something to do both, not sure.

There is a feat, quick channel (rapid channel?) To burn an extra use to channel as a move action, which has obvious benefits if you have enough uses or are in a jam.

He can actually.

I was thinking of a Dhamphir Cleric that takes selective channel (to spare my allies)...that hurts enemies while healing myself.

Channeling:
"Channeling energy causes a burst that affects all creatures of one type (either undead or living) in a 30-foot...A cleric can choose whether or not to include herself in this effect."

Dhampir:
"Negative Energy Affinity: Though a living creature, a dhampir reacts to positive and negative energy as if it were undead—positive energy harms it, while negative energy heals it."

He chooses "living" as his Channel target, optionally includes himself in the effect (and excludes his allies per feat). Result is that he is healed, and all (living) opponents take damage.

And there is the aforementioned Envoy of Balance PrC, which can explicitly Channel both Positive and Negative with one action.
