Does a Vampire class exist in this edition? Homebrew or not, don't really mind, just hoping it's playable/balanced enough to run. Links would be appreciated, not looking for anything in particular.

Vampire SPAWN gets playable stats in the MM. It's overpowered, as fitting a vampire. I have no idea why would vampire be a class instead of a race.

Honestly...? Reflavor the Drow as however you want your character to look. Sunlight sensitivity, and the spells are thematic.

Then make it a Fiend Warlock, but replace the spell list with the Raven Queen spell list (available in the Warlock Unearthed Arcana article). The ability to reroll a save with Dark One's Own Luck can be called Vampiric Resiliency. Or keep the name, whatever floats your boat.

You're done.

One day we might get a vampire race, vampire class, and vampire background...

What could go wrong?

Oh thanks!

That's all 4ee stuff but if you ever do homebrew it should give some ideas.

I always liked it, even if it wasn't the best class made XD

Matthew Mercer wrote an Order of the Lycan subclass wlfor his Bloodhunter which could be refluffed as a Vampire easily. It is less magical but more physical in nature.

There isn't a vampire class that I know of yet. As for why you'd want one as a class and not a race, the answer is because the typical vampire abilities are too much for a race. A race is what you are, but what you do, round to round, should generally come from your class, and a lot of the typical vampire stuff is 'doing' - controlling animals, turning into bats or mist, hypnotizing others, bite attacks, etc.

You could always build your own homebrew vampire class, but that's a lot of work. If instead you wanted to build vampire as a homebrew subclass of an existing class, you should look to warlock, in particular taking inspiration from bladelock and hexblade for the right chassis of some magical abilities, and some ability to mix things up up close with weapons in medium armor. The warlock's focus on at-will abilities, both cantrips and invocations, can work for portraying the all-the-time available abilities of a vampire better than, say, spells or the like.

Plus, warlock has a sort of double-subclass (patron and pact boon) set up, and by hijacking both parts of that (vampiric sire patron, pact of blood boon) you have more subclass abilities to work with in conveying characters vampireyness than with most other classes.

There are no particularly balanced vampire classes out there, but the two prestige classes that I like (for slightly different reasons) are Walrock's Vampire v0.4 (http://walrock-homebrew.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/prestige-class-vampire-fourth-draft.html) and Sterling Vermin's Vampire (http://www.dmsguild.com/product/196744/the-Vampire-Prestige-Class-for-DD-5e). I recommend both of those, particularly Walrock's as it's free. :smalltongue:

I did a terrible Vampire Queen prestige class (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=20767211&postcount=12) a while back, if that helps. It is awful though.

There are also four Vampire races (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=20541849&postcount=4) and two Vampire classes (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=20541911&postcount=18) in the compendium.

There is a 5E Vampire as a class on the Tribality website (search tribablity, 5e, vampire). Not sure if I could link to it direct.

My DM currently has me using that, and it is a lot of fun and games for my Halfling Paladin/Vampire...

That's Jessica Deuel's (http://www.dmsguild.com/product/176056/Vampire-Class) version. I like the class, but it is somewhat overpowered.

The undying warlock is definitely the most "vampire" class.

As for vampire race I'd suggest using the one in "planeshift: Zendikar".

I also remember seeing a vampire prestige somewhere on the homebrewery but I have no idea what it was called.
