The lone mage stands atop the windswept tower in the middle of a raging sandstorm. Sand whips across his figure, tearing at the feeble rags that remain across his body. Blood leaks from beneath the rags, forming a slowly creaping pool of muck at his feet. The blood quickly taints the surface, even as the blood is torn away in the wind. In short order, the blowing sands tear the blood completely clear, just about at the same time that the man falls to his knees. His rags have been torn free, his flesh raw from the abrassives in the air. Within moments the skin is gone, only blood and bone and torn flesh remain. Collapsing, his last breath is flung into the ait to be carried off for all eternity. The remains last not long, the winds insatible fury cannot be abaited. Soon even bones are returned to dust.
The man had arrived but moments before.
Nzyxialtirsa, a plane of Ash, is filled with such tornados, called Ashgeisers, that have the speed and intensity to tear flesh from bone and bone from soul. Not much else is known about this nightmare, and even this knowledge is hard to come by. One of the side effects of the deadly ash is that is does not radiate an aura of place, and so it is impossible to verify ones place in the plane, and prevents mystical travel other that the mysterious gateways.
The Plane of Ash is filled with long lost civilizations and cultures, all consumed by the storms. Yet the hard stone bases yet stand, along with their host of creatures that have addapted to the impossible enviroment. Only the foolhardy journey to such a place, yet those that find a way in find it nigh impossible to return. Those that are left take up residence in some of the more untouched towns that have survived. It is from these towns that adventure arrises.
