View Full Version : Optimization Spell Selection for a Favored Soul themed after a "White Mage"

As the title asks. I had the crazy idea to combine Distant spell with Spells like Cure Wounds and Heal to make a totally ranged healing character themed after a White Mage from Final Fantasy. Playstyle wise I want this character to be total support; so their spell list should not include any spells that only deal damage (though those that deal damage and have a support rider, like Guiding Bolt, are fine.) Ideally, I'd like primarily to be about buffs and heals, though a little crowd control would not hurt either. However, with the sorcerer's knowb spells being so limited I am suffering from choice paralysis since between the cleric and sorc list there are so many great support spells.

So what I an looking for is the ideal spell list for a heal/buff focused favored soul that takes no direct fireball type blasts. (though CC spells like hypnotic pattern are fine). If you could help me with this I'd be grateful!

okayyyyy... I love the favored soul! here (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1E8wvSqCrzF5bNb-aSZDBoiRj3-cEi9Mg2TAXoiso7PA/edit?usp=sharing) you have my "tweaked version" of the Unhearted Arcana favored soul bloodline for the sorcerer.
I imagine that your character will be this kind of charismatic and wise dude that calmly takes care of his friends. And since you don't want direct damaging spells i'll follow this concept of being useful while not doing any of the "fighting".

NOW For the sake of simplicity i'll state a maximum of 6 spells on any spell level :3 "/" means choose one of the two stated.

-Shield of Faith/Create or Destroy Water (The lather is an awsome support tool, extinguish fires or make the enemy wet so the wizard can lighting bolt them more effectively)


-Enhance Ability
-Zone of Truth (This spell is god-like hilarious)
-Aid/Lesser Restoration
-Hold Person
-Warding Bond (Be careful with this as it redirects damage to you)
-See invisibility/Detect Traps (I like See Invisibility the more)
-Maximilian's Earthen Grasp
EXTRA: Prayer of Healing.


-Beacon of Hope
-Magic Circle
-Mass Healing Word
-Water Breathing/Haste
-Spirit Guardians
-Revivify
EXTRA: Daylight (A little bit useless but fits the light theme)

It's pretty straight forward. Take Cleric healing and buffing spells (bless, shield of faith), restorations (lesser, greater, dispel magic), splash in relevant CC (hold person, slow, silence).

Luckily for you Sorcerer's don't get to choose very many spells so you don't have to worry about upgraded spell versions like FF since they just up-cast at higher levels.
