Hey everyone- This post is a question for all the UK GitPers out there. Is there a correct spelling of bollox/bollux/bollocks/etc? I've seen it a couple of different ways, so maybe it varies? (It's for dialogue in a book for a character who's Welsh. I knew someone from Wales who, if memory serves, spelled it bollox, but I'm not entirely sure anymore.)

Thanks!

I'm not from the UK, but I'd spell it "bollocks".
LEO (http://dict.leo.org/ende?lp=ende&p=/gQPU.&search=bollocks) agrees with this.

What purpose does this thread serve that a Google search wouldn't have answered better?

Ah, Wikipedia. One of these days I'll remember that it holds the answers to all life's questions. Thanks! (I might go with "bollox," though, as that's mentioned in there as a useage designed to make it seem less vulgar, as it fits in better with the character.)

Agreed.
The UK also has an incredible number of words both medical, physiological and just slang for testicles. Don't neglect them! ;)

Thanks for the friendly reply. If you figure the thread's a waste of your time, why bother to reply at all?

The reason I figured I'd ask here is because I'd rather get it from someone who's a part of the culture it comes from rather than look it up on a Google search, especially as I've seen it in multiple variants. (I'd rather look out the window and see the weather directly than look up the weather on Yahoo, for example.)

Now, there we go. Asking US for advice and then not taking it. Back in the old days, they would feed you to the pigs for that!:smallamused:

Well I'm still open to input. My threads usually don't garner much response, so I figured that's all I'd get. :smallwink:

It's spelt "bollocks".

FYI, most anything spelled with an X at the end is probably an informal misspelling of a word that sounds like that.

And I could say something similar about the U you put there, but actually they are used as weak vowels in some words (though for the sake of spelling something as you hear it, it could be written with almost any vowel).

Yeah, but you know what I'm talking about. I didn't formulate it correctly. It would be for plural words mostly.

BTW, crossword helper? That's cheap! :p

Hah, is that what that is? I just Googled 'words ending in x'.
