View Full Version : Optimization So I saw the "Biggest nova round by level 3" thread and wondered, what about at 20th?

The guidelines I'll put here are:


You can use any and all magic items, but if you summon things (like with a horn of valhalla) the summoned thing can't attack.
Your target is a SINGLE nonspecific meat pop with infinite health, no resistances, no immunities, and no vulnerabilities.
All attacks auto-hit (don't factor in miss chance).
All damage rolls deal maximum damage.
No critical hits unless one is guaranteed by a class feature or spell.
All spell saves are auto-failed by the target.
Only you can deal direct damage to the target (IE: Attacks, Damaging spells, grappling and dragging through spike growth.)
You have as many rounds for buffs as you want, and party members can buff you, but you only get one turn to do actual damage.
No abusable terrain features. (Hundred thousand foot drops, difficult terrain, etc.)

Nope, your simulacrums attacked. Only you get to do any direct damage. Like I said, summoned things don't get to do damage.

EDIT: And by you, I mean YOU. Not clones of you.

All right! Since your party members can buff you, I use Wishlacrum Army + Telepathy to create a hivemind with my simulacrums becoming temporarily omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent! Then I use my action to erase the "living ballistic jelly" from all realities (also, I kill all kenders at the same time)!

I posted some days ago some build that can run 12400ft in one turn, so, with spike growth is 19840 damage.
I post the build here when I can.

Ok, since there is no limit of party members, I use... the Commoner Railgun with my Raging Reckless VHuman Tavern Brawler Barbarian 20 being the one to throw the 10ft pole! :smallamused:

I'll bite.

Obviously Assassin 3 for auto crits is a must.

Fighter 2 for action surge is a must

Great Weapon Master is a must.

Ok,

Let's go:

Devotion Paladin 12

Battlemaster Fighter 2

Assassin Rogue 3

Deep Stalker Ranger 3

I'd have the wizard cast haste on me.
I'd prebuff the aura of devotion

Feats:
-GWM
- Polearm Master

Items:
- Belt of Stormgiant Strength
- Hazirwan (legendary greatsword +2/ 2d6 necrotic damage per hit)

This characters damage would have to be broken down in a wierd way.

First, he'd make 7 attacks on the opening round (2 normal, 2 action surge, haste, deep stalker attack, bonus action attack)

Each hit would crit: so that's 4d6 (sword) + 4d6 (necroctic from sword) + 2d8 (improved smite) + 9 (strength) + 10 (GWM) + 2 (sword) + 5 (aura of devotion)= 90X7= 630

Now you'd add in the sneak attack for an additional 24 bringing the total to 654.

From there you bring in the smite damage. With 7 attacks that's 3 3rd level spell slots deal 8d8, 3 doing 6d8, and 1 doing 4d8= 144+ 630= 774

Now I'm no master of other attack buffs, but I'm sure there's 1-2 more that would help out further, but in dealing 774 damage in 1 turn, most things will be a nice creamy paste.

Hmm...

11 bard(valor)/5 warlock (archfey)/4 fighter (champion)

Invocations: Devils sight, moon bow, improved pact weapon

Fighter: archery fighting style, action surge

Bard: extra attack, magical secrets (swiftquiver)

Feat: sharpshooter.

Assuming max dex, that's +14 to hit, or +9 for Sharpshooter, with 4 attacks in the Nova round. Bard gives 1 6th level slot, two 5th level slots, 2 4th level slots, and one 3rd level slot

Smiting and sharpshooting on every attack, using action surge gives us 6d8(arrows)+30(dex)+6(IPB)+60(sharpshooter)+54d8(m oon bow), or 366 avg. damage.

Maybe not the best, but certainly impressive.

Can't sneak attack with a greatsword.

goodpoint. Remove the 12 extra damage from sneak attack.

Everyone is forgetting poison, poison can add a ton of damage to your attacks. Purple worm poison can add 72 damage to one attack. So for my max damage, I'd be a 20th level fighter and I'd have haste and the paladin extra 1d4 spell on me.
So, with +3 bow, +3 arrows, bracers of archery, and sharpshooter, hex through magic initiate, and purple worm poison on every arrow, I'd deal
72(poison)+ 4(paladin spell)+ 8(bow) +8(magic items)+10 sharpshooter+5(dex)+ 6(hex)= 113damage per attack.
X5 with multi attack and haste= 565
X2 action surge= 1130
