Take a look at the Decorative Statue, from here: http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fey/20030711a

Decorative Statue: This statue was created by a cruel fey sorcerer. Originally, the statue was a servant who angered the sorcerer by breaking one of his figurines while dusting. In a fit of rage, he turned her into a statue. She remained in that state until the master's dog wandered into the library. When the canine brushed the statue, the spell transferred to him, and the dog became stone, freeing the servant. This pattern continues, so whenever a living creature of medium or large size (including invisible creatures) touches the statue, the trapped creature becomes free and the new creature turns to stone. The statue can be indoors or outside, such as in a garden or mausoleum.

Aura: Strong transmutation; Caster Level: 9th; Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, flesh to stone; Market Price: 132,000 gp; Weight: 100 lbs.

Notice something missing?

That's right, this item's effect has NO SAVE (and presumably SR: no), AND you can craft it.

Admittedly, if you can't stop a statue that's being hurled at you at a high speed (or an animated statue), you don't deserve to be a god, but still.

I suppose that this technically doesn't KILL it's victims, either, but it's pretty darn close. Maybe you could set up a quest revolving around some powerful good or evil being that's imprisoned inside of one of these statues and the creatures that are trying to free it.

I'm pretty sure my Sig has got this covered.

Yeah, I was reminded of that quote while typing this.

Note that it would only work on Medium and Large gods, although you could try to trick larger or smaller gods into changing their size to meet the prerequisites before chucking the statue to them.

Divine Characteristics (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/divine/divineRanksAndPowers.htm#transmutation):
A deity is immune to polymorphing, petrification, or any other attack that alters its form. Any shape-altering powers the deity might have work normally on itself.

Aura: Strong transmutation; Caster Level: 9th; Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, flesh to stone

Fun fact: the text of the magic item contradicts itself.

This pattern continues, so whenever a living creature of medium or large size (including invisible creatures) touches the statue, the trapped creature becomes free and the new creature turns to stone.
In 3.5e, dogs (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/dog.htm) are Small creatures and therefore immune to a decorative statue's effect.

Hey, the thing belonged to a fey sorcerer. For all we know it was a Half-Fey Symbiotic Dog-Brown Bear.

It's from the Kingdoms of Kalamar book Dangerous Denizens. Not a first-party source.

See D&D logo?
Other non-1st party books - such as Dragonlance, Ravenloft, or Rokugan - don't have it.
Thus - completely official

Well, yes. It's still a step down of sorts, though, as it's not published by WoTC, and many of the build competitions on this forum disallow such things.

I think Dragonlance is also licensed by WoTC, though. They just don't put the D&D logo on their covers.

You forgot Moon Dog.No, I avoided them deliberately - just like any other non-Animal "Dogs"

Otherwise, Elven Hound, Blink Dog, Death Dog, and Vile Dog are all fit in too

Also, Snake-Dog (http://archive.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=fr/fx20011025a)
And Mad Black Hound (http://archive.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=fr/fx20010403j)

Darn.

Well, I suppose that it will still work on powerful non-deity creatures, so it's at least something.

I would say 3rd party material due to the legal issues they had with TSR?? It's a splatbook at best, but recieves a blanket ban from most DMs. Balance issues I assume. There was a settlement which included them the use of the logo. They paid for the licensing rights because you can open it up and find the line that says Wizards of the Coast Official Licensed Product written near the index. Later you find out that the guy who owns the book decides to give up on the D&D logo and just goes back to writing 3rd party supplements.
