These magical hats are typically made by changeling artificers who either use one themselves or wish to make it easier for their fellows to blend in with other races.
Hat of Disguise, Passer's
This hat is designed for changelings who wish to conceal their race and assume a single identity. An identify spell shows this item as a typical hat of disguise unless the caster is a changeling. This item does not function except when worn by a changeling. Any attempt by a non-changeling to discern why it does not work short of analyze dweomer(which reveals the full power and function of the passer's hat) will yield false information designed to induce the person trying to find out to give it to the nearest changeling(if there is a changeling who the person trying to find out why it doesn't work is an ally to and who is open about their race with them, they learn the true function of the passer's hat of disguise). When a changeling wearing a passer's hat of disguise uses their Minor Change Shape ability within sight of someone who does not know that they are a changeling, the passer's hat projects a glammer designed to make it appear as if the changeling were activating a normal hat of disguise(changing clothes, making the change sudden instead of gradual, and so forth).

Designed for changelings who maintain multiple identities, this item functions as a passer's hat of disguise, except that it also gives a +5 compotence bonus to Forgery checks.

Hat of Disguise, Reality Seeker's
Designed for changlings who are completely open about their race but still occasionally find it useful to impersonate someone, this item alter's the appearance and size(but no magical or otherwise mechanic-affecting aspects) of a changeling's clothes when they use their Minor Change Shape ability, in order to facilitate the disguise. This provides a +2 circumstance bonus to Disguise checks that does not stack with the bonus from a disguise kit(see the Player's Handbook's equipment section). Of the items presented here, this is the most likely to be made by a non-changeling, as the type of person who would use this item is almost certainly fully open about their race.
