I didn't know that.

Totally a classic.

Goes back to at least Aristotle.

Incapacity may well be, but that's a different story, and may be what plays out here.

The only incapacity defense that would hold up is some form of insanity, under which Kornada would be about as thoroughly out of the picture as he would be under conviction. Otherwise it's sentence bargaining at best.

So, the mayor is leaving the seat of power vacant <Link that will work through Sunday> (http://freefall.purrsia.com/default.htm) <Link that will work starting on Monday> (http://freefall.purrsia.com/ff3000/fc02987.htm) And Sam may be heading for the seat of power (http://freefall.purrsia.com/ff3000/fc02986.htm). Something very bad may come of this.

Hopefully Sam will arrive before she leaves and his presence will will convince her that she's needed as Mayor or something like that.

I actually kinda hope that doesnt happen. It is a really worthy reason that makes the Mayor step down. And i feel a lot of the message will be lost if she changes her mind about it.

I think it might damage the message less if the Mayor, on seeing Sam, says "I'm going to retire. I won't run for reelection. I just won't leave office until the next election. Let's do it tomorrow."

I guess I like her as mayor and would miss her. Also, the fact that she was willing to accept that she was wrong and start doing the right things makes her a good example. Finally, her ignorance was typical for the colonists so I don't think she should be judged all that harshly. I don't think the robots would want her gone.

Another issue is that I get the impression that it's a personal thing. It's more about the mayor loosing faith in herself, rather than creating a message for public consumption.

Woops! Even though I provided a link earlier, I somehow missed the fact that the mayor was going on sabbatical (http://freefall.purrsia.com/ff3000/fc02986.htm), rather than resigning. It's not quite such a big deal then. Still, I kind of pity her assistant with Sam on the way.

I wonder if there is any possibility that Sam stowed away in order to drive the mayor crazy on her trip.

"She's a cigar chomping public official who sees most of her constituents as tools. He's a serious actor who has played horrible roles for his entire career. Together, they fight crime."
