Sorceror here going from 4th to 5th level.Spells known goes from 5 to 6, and it shows a 2 in the 3rd level spell slot. If i trade in a spell does that mean i can take two level 3 spells?

Yes. You can trade in any one of your 5 spells you already had for any spell of 3rd level or lower.

Yep, once everytime you lvl, you can change one of your spell for any other spell of a spell level you can cast.

Also, the number of slot you have is not a restriction on your spell known. When you'll turn lvl 7, you'll gain access to level 4 spells. You'll only have 1 slot, but you could still pick one level 4 spell and trade one of your old spell for another level 4 spell.

Wow, didnt know thatThen you probably got the wrong idea about spell slots.

It is a mana system. You know how spells can have verbal, somatic and material components? Well, most also have an energetic component, which is consumed in the process. And this magical energy comes in the form of discrete charges that the game designers decided to call "spell slots".

A confusing name, especially since it used to mean something completely different in previous editions.
