Warmage Edge Question

Is the Bonus Damage from the Warmage's edge ability reduced on spells that allow for a saving throw of half, or is it applied afterwards and not halved?

For example say a Warmage with an 18 int or +4 to damage from his edge ability casts a fireball at a creature, the creature saves taking half damage from the fireball, would said creature take an additional 4 damage from the warmage edge or only 2 damage because the spell in question allows for the damage to be halved on a save.

I would say that half damage means half of all the damage. Essentially, you determine the damage total before the recipient figures out if they're taking all of it or half of it.
