The Rules. You! Read these!

In order to try and keep these threads from becoming unmanageable, some rules have been created, and they accent the forum rules. Please read those first.

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB one word posts should be spam everywhere. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* should also be considered spam. Quality of content trumps speed of response.
2. Ditch the "competition for control of the universe". It has ceased to be funny, and often branches out into little mock battles that fall into the spam definition laid out above. We've got a PbP section for fights, and even the Town has an arena, I believe.
3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well.
4. Stop advertising other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.
5. Please stop with single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."
6. Do not poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."
7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.
8. No asking "What's the topic" or the ilk. This is *not* a conversation where you could've missed the begining, it's a forum where the current topic is nicely recorded for you. So read up a bit first.
9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.
10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.

:miko:Anyone found breaking the rules will be sent to stand in the corner and receive a very stern talking to! :miko:

Teaching them to speak at ALL is hard, let alone teaching them to speak correctly. Besides, it's developed into it's own individual language now, usually known as Catspeak.

Here's a simple experiment you can try in the comfort of your own home.

A kitten: =^_^= Cute.

A kitten trying unsuccessfully to bat at a piece of string placed just out of reach:
Adorable.

Though, I could go up to Spit Roast. I'm sure they'd have one...

There's a scale (the level of appeal being equal)
smart_____________________________stupid

sexy______________________________cute

There are exceptions, of course, but it's a good rule of thumb.

Noted. The choice of grammatical abnormalities seem to be more restricted than thought at the beginning of the experiment.

Thanks for your valuable input. :)

*looks up from glasses, scribbles in notepad*

Writing in all capitals does have an effect, doesn't it?
I want to distill the inherent humorous effect of the phenomenon known as "the cat meme". I want to get to the gist, to be able to define the intersection of funny/cute.

Yes, capitals do have an effect. Though, it should be noted that cats and other animals usually only speak in either all Capitals, or no Capitals.

That's rather interesting. What an annoying programming language.

That list of links just led me to java2k, nondeterministic and programming? Sweet nightmare of frustration and challenge! Reading through esoteric programming languages gave a great contribution to my day

One of these days, when I'm in a happy and joyous mood but realize I just wish to destroy everything and everyone around me, I shall have to try writing code in one of these languages just to make myself loathe the world enough to do such.

Oh, so by "Best way" you meant "best honest way" that's a pretty crucial difference.

Hmmm....as for artists, I'd recommend Ego Slayer. I'd recommend Ceika, but she's busy with a job hunt and husband and the occassional out-of-left-field llamatar.

Me, I have yet to see you rhyme something. So
Please,
Hear this:

Farther than man has been,
Farther than ever machine,
Deep beneath the ocean blue,
Is the place that no one’s seen!

In the land where Dragons dwell,
Where Elves sing of creatures fell,
Deep down in the darkest cave,
There are stories there to tell!

Take me there O song of mine,
To the place that knows no time,
To the place inside my dreams
Take me to the forests pine!

Deep inside the dungeon dark,
Hellhounds shout their booming bark,
But have no fear, don’t run or hide,
Your weapons always hit their mark!

So notch your bows, unsheathe you swords,
Take no fear of Goblin hordes,
Spells and magic, swords and bows,
You shall prevail, hear these words!

I wish to go there, can’t you see?
This is were I long to be,
Wind and fire, earth and water,
Take me there, oh set me free!

And Bosssmiley, they were amazing episodes. What about the Holly Hop Drive, White Hole, that scene in Stais Leak with 3 or 4 of the main characters all in one room. Or, anything involving multiple Cats/Listers/Rimmers/Krytens. Remember Angels and Demons(I think it was) or anything involving time.

MC, try this link:All the anime you could ever want. (http://tv-links.co.uk/index.do/3)
it has a lot of Miyazaki films on it, all in Japanese I think. And a lot of other good films and series.
Porco Russo was funny because of what it was; Totoro was touching and funny too. I also love Laputa Castle in the Sky, Naussica of the Valley of the Wind; The Castle of Cagliostro, and I've heard some very good things about Grave of the Fireflies and Millenium Actress (not a Miyazaki)

EDIT: Simu'd, but agree with Skenardo

You can call yourself anything you like regardless of the validity of it. The only time you can't call yourself something is if you have no tongue, and even then you can do so through writing. So if you have no tongue and you're paralyzed, or something, you're set on the whole 'I can't call myself _____' thing.

Guys...don't spam to get rid of the dare.

Random suggestion: perhaps these "include <whatever> in your next <whatever> posts" dares should be kept entirely within the SMBG forum? I'm just wondering how pissed your DM would be if you made a PbP post entirely in white or something.

Like I said, it's spilling over. And, to be honest, it's a little annoying (especially with the text colour-type things which is why there's a forum rule against it) when I'm trying to read a (nominally) serious post and seeing "<whoever> is the greatest person in the world" all over it. Even Korith and I agreed to keep the absolute chaos that is The War only in the silly games.

Or not...not like it's that big of a deal. Just a little complaint.

Indurain
2007-07-26, 09:40 PM

Nomrom

The way I see it, is that it's okay if you don't just post to finish the dare. I have to do my dare for twenty posts. That will take me a day or two at least, because I don't post all that often. If you just post regularly, and add in your dare at the end, or work it in in a good way, it doesn't bother me. Well that;s not true. The one who had to post in white was annoying, and I hope he said nothing important because I didn't read it. But yes, as it is, it has definitely gotten out of hand.

You must help settle this dispute with the chilli god (who has no right to be in the fire category!), please go and vote pxp for fire to prove that his fallacies are no match against the infinite (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/15859202/).

I have voted for
Pxp already, so
No need to ask me.

Cheddar! 11
