I'm thinking of taking leadership to gain a monstrous cohort, all i want from it is high strength, tall stature and preferably very low intelligence(also preferable something vaguely humanoid). Essentially a big brutish thing that i would use to break down doors and threaten people with.
My DM has said anything with HD equal to or lower than 13, so i've been looking at monstrous humanoids and giants and the like, but there's nothing in that range that seems especially strong, low 20's at the most, for that i may as well just make a normal cohort with high str.

So do you people have any advice on what i should look into? Perhaps a low HD monster with decent strength and then give it class levels(That is possible right)?

The Ogre 4th level Barbarian from the SRD and MM1 has 8HD (4 racial and 4 class) and 26 str and is over 8ft tall and its int is only 8. Seems to fit well. If you really want 13 HD you could have the DM give the Ogre more class levels 5 more in Barb would give it 5d12 more hp.

Don't Legendary Apes have 13 HD?

Just found the Wicked Leader trait, which will up that 13 to a 14. Looking at the Athach at the moment, but 18 foot tall seems a little much.

War Troll is good. Daze is a nice condition and you can even improve the DC 25 save by boosting the troll's constitution.

edit: They aren't super dumb though, with 8 int and all. You can possibly consider adding templates to lower that. Feral from Savage Species would give -4 while adding a ton of extra abilities and boosting Str/Con even more.

This. In addition, the Corpse Cohort Problem* won't apply either, as long as you keep it away from acid.

*Cohorts tend to be lower in HP, gear, and power than the other PC's, meaning they die easier. This is undesirable.

I just realised i never specified which system this is.
It's Pathfinder...

Thanks for your help though, i've been looking at the Nependis and the Athach, however the Athach seems a little too big for my tatse.
