Say an glabrezu has Blood Wind cast on it. The demon then 'throws' its pincer and hits a medium creature standing 100 feet away. According to its Improved Grab, it can now attempt to grapple said creature.

How does this work, exactly?

Blood wind says to treat the natural weapon as a thrown weapon. You can't grapple with a thrown weapon, so there's no dysfunction.

Well according to the SRD "Grab. You make a melee touch attack to grab the target. If you fail to hit the target, the grapple attempt fails. If you succeed, proceed to Step 3." on Step 2 of grappling it specifies it needs a melee touch attack to be able to grapple which you simply cannot do with a ranged attack such as that from blood wind. The only ranged grapple that works that I am aware of is that from the Ranged Pin feat from CW but is completely different from this.

glabrezu has imp grab. it skips the touch attack. but as you said, you can't make grapple attempts with thrown weapons anyway, so it's moot.

just give the glabrezu at least 2 levels in bloodstorm blade. that allows you to treat the thrown attacks with blood wind as melee attacks again, allowing your imp grab to activate.

in that instance, you and your victim would both be treated as grappling with all the ensuing special provisions and such (not threatening other squares, limited to specific actions, etc) but you wouldn't be in the same square. it's juts like telekinetic maneuver, except you act like you're grappled too.

both consume your swift though, so make sure you get a friend to cast blood wind on you.
