I googled for an English to Japanese dictionary, and picked the first one I could find. Unfortunately, the word I wanted translated had ten different equivalents :smalleek:.
The word I want translated is shadow (as in the one connected to your feet).
I also want to know what online dictionary you rely on.
Thank you. :miko:

{edit: ninja'ed, perhaps fitting really...}
Kage
Google search: Shadow +japanese
Results 1 - 10 of about 2,520,000 for Shadow +japanese. (0.09 seconds)
1st result http://japanese.about.com/bl50kanji5_kage.htm also gives the Kanji.
If you really want to use it a lot I would suggest the bonjinsha/oxford hard cover. I like mine pretty well.

Online:
http://kanjidict.stc.cx
This translates phrases and words back and forth between English and Nihongo. It also links to an actual kanji dictionary.
If you want a book:
Spahn & Hadamitzky's Learner's Kanji Dictionary (http://bookweb.kinokuniya.co.jp/guest/cgi-bin/bookseaohb.cgi?ISBN=080483556X&AREA=04)
This is all kanji, but it has numerous entries for kanji phrases that represent more complex words as well.

My favorite is http://www.romajidesu.com/
By the way, shadow indead has many meaning in Japanese.

But I think the most popular is 'kage' (影), I can tell because it has some sample sentences and many senses.

I'm proud to know your name means rainbow cat!
I studied Japanese for 8 semesters (and I still study ever day). I'm not fluent by any means, but... I may come in handy.

Can't help but feel that Gray Phantom probably either got the answer he needed when he posted this thread *six years ago* or has given up in disgust long since...
