Well? Is C&C a good possibility for a campaign? Ladies and gentlemen...Discuss. Note, we are talking about the Tiberium Wars series. So, Red Alert, and all that stuff, keep it out.

if it was d20 future, with flying tanks and such, and no magic, the dm would only have to stat out some mutants, tiberium, and 3-4 other things. I find that type of campaign, where your a soldier in an army, not too great.

Please don't do it, my friend completely destroyed his awesome d20 future game like this. He went from having a captivating storyline to "lulz vidjagamez" and thus we all lost interest. It may work for your players, but it sure as hell didn't help us.

In memoriam of "the ragtag bunch of misfits"....

Jin "Charlie" Woo- 3rd lvl Fast Hero, sniper and scout (me)

UA-08224 "Fozzy"- 3rd lvl Tough Hero, bear merou heavy arms expert

Kyle "Dr.Charisma" Durdin- 3rd lvl Charismatic Hero, imcompitant diplomat

Patrick "McGriddle" McAllister (or something)- 3rd lvl Strong Hero, native thug

CO-74386 "Flipper"- 3rd lvl Smart Hero, dolphin merou tech specialist

It can work if the players are some sort of "elite team", set to infiltrate enemy headquarters, find plans for new weapons, these things. Actual warfare doesn't work too great with single characters, if the armies have too many units.

I'd say it could work if you were more inspired by C&C: Renegade, rather than the RTS games. Haven't seen a good war system for D20, and players generally want to be infiltrating the enemy base rather than facing the enemy army like the rest of the grunts.

There's a lot of great background in that game, but not sure how well it would work in a setting like that.

NOD would almost certainly be funner than GDI. In fact, you're probably far better off with a NOD campaign. A group that consists of members who are any combination of Anarchists, Mercenaries, Terrorists, Rebels, and Zealouts are probably going to be more fun to play than Team America: World Police.

But, C&C Renegade makes me think there's potential. Even if it's a GDI game.

Of course, all this is coming from a NOD fan :P HAIL KANE!

I highly suggest you play CnC3.

It's a fairly good RTS (Wc3 and BFME2 are better, but its fun) and it does alot to develop the world. Both from the general storyline and the background intel you can gather and read.

My suggestion is to downplay the NoD vs GDI thing in your campaign, have it be background. Use the world, use the struggle of the super powers and the post-apocolyptic setting as a great cataylst for RPing and conflict.

I intend to use the setting myself, and feel that its a great and unique atmosphere.

D20 modern would be best for simulating this, mainly for the technology. But you could use it in a more standard DnD setting as well. No reason why mutants can't = monsters, as well as having races like elves and dwarves and orcs develop (but not have their long history of civilization). You can have magic and all that jazz too. Magic vs technology is always fun.

Ironically, the first thought I had was that you'd ideally be playing as mutants, not as either of the two main sides.

The mutants have vast opportunity for being adventurer-like individuals. They're independant, indigenous to nearly every area, and are friends with no one. Anyone will accept them temporarily, but never permanently. They likewise return the favor. Plus, they've got that very special relationship with tiberium....

Personally, I've seen it work decently well, provided that instead of going for the mooks that the regular infantry are, you build up the PC's to where they're going on the commando-style missions that were so much fun in the actual game.

The special units have unique abilities, the hitpoints of a tank, and advanced weaponry. That also holds true for mid to high level D20 modern characters. And given the weird mutated lifeforms that were all over the place in Tiberium sun, it wouldn't be out of line to mix in adventures involving, say, an abandoned lab with vital info way out in the red zones just crawling with critters ripped from gamma world, D&D, you name it.

Obviously if the DM gets lazy and instead of actively working with the world to keep the PCs engaged, just waxes nostalgic about how cool it all was or assumes the game world will take care of things like story arcs and encounters, it'll blow up in everyone's face.

I can recommend the campaign style I was run on, where the characters start out as non-aligned civilians and become part of the Forgotten when their hometown becomes infested with tiberium. Given the apparent psychic powers and mutations of the forgotten, it supports a lot of options for the players.

Well, you know how in C&C 3, if you can keep your units fighting and alive at the same time, they eventually grow to Hero status? Well, it's gonna be like that. We start off as average joes who's job it is to be cannon fodder, we gain experience, go up a few levels, and bam, we're hero status...then we end up going to Commando-status, go up some more levels and we're Hero-Commando status. See where I'm going with this?

Yes, and I recommend your character sheets be treated as templates.

Well, for the most part, we'll have alot of backup, which will recieve most of the return fire. We get experience, and the OTHER cannon fodder get the punishment, if only for a short time. :smallamused:
