So I was surfing the intraweebs and found this dandy on the Lego website.

http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=10179&cn=233

Its a too scale (for Lego figs) Millennium Falcon with over 5000 pieces and its nearly three feet long (1m). Its currently going for 679.99CAD or 599.99USD. You know you want one.

Wow! It's amazing! I like that you can put the figures inside.

But then...600 dollars... :S
Though I'm sure collectors will kill each other to buy one of these.

The Death Star rules too.

Limit 5 per customer, and the first production run gets you a randomly selected authenticity certificate (the number on the certificate is randomly selected).

This is one of those things where you sit there staring at it for three hours, then jerk out of your stupor, say "Daaaaaammmn. If I had that kind of cash..." and move on.

Years later, you realize that you did have that kind of cash and you should have bought it, because you still want it.

Just went on vacation about a month ago. Went to Lego Land seen the Death Star, and even a Star Destroyer that were smaller than the Falcon. Want I want is the life size Darth Vader they had stading out in front of the Lego store

If I had the money I probably would still not by the Falcon, very cool but got much much better and useful items to spend $500 on.

Is that one to scale as well? :smalltongue:

No, that would require it fill the averae football field (possibly an exaggeration). And to make something that large, Herman, would be rather traumatic.

That sounds like a challenge. If only I had hundreds of millions of pieces of lego.

How could they have the Deathstar and the Falcon but not the Icewalkers from Hoth? This somehow upsets me...[/sadness]

You mean AT-ATs? Those should definitely be lego-ized.

It would be a monumental feat for which you would be immortalized in the history books. It would require studying the schematics of the Death Star and wasting decades of your life in the careful observation of every corner a Stormtrooper takes in Empire Strikes Back.

You know, if I had the time, and resources to accomplish such a feat, I totally would. I would love to spend my life studying and recreating a to-scale Lego replica of the Death Star. The only question is which one? The first one - completed but much smaller? Or the second one - never finished, but of a size to dwarf its predecessor?

Actually I bet most of them are the exact same corner.

no, really.

...but, like others have pointed out, there's probably other things I should spend $600 on.

...bills, for example...

Still, that is awesome.

Yeah, and call me when you get that to-scale model of the Death Star. I thought about that one day, and decided it would have to be like 500ft tall (a very rough guess based on not much).

Actual size of the to-scale model. Let's see. The Lego Millennium Falcon is 84cm long. The actual Millennium Falcon is 26.7m, or 2670cm long. This gives a scale of 31.7857:1.
The first Death Star was 160km long, or 160000000cm. This gives a Lego size of 503371cm, or 16510ft, or 3.1mi.
The second Death Star doesn't have an actual size, only >900km. This means a Lego sized version would be at least 23820m, 78150ft, or 14.8mi. Needless to say, that is really, really big. It's going to take a lot more room than thought to construct such a thing.

Are you sure about the dimensions for the Death Stars? They seem quite wrong to me. I remembered it being 100 km for the first, and 150 km for the second.

EDIT: Wookiepedia is blocked here, but here is the relevent parts from Wikipedia. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_star#Contradictions_in_official_literature)

I got my information from Wookiepedia (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page). I admit, that as an online editable encyclopedia, it does have a potential for misinformation, but they seem pretty good about that, and I trust the site.

Lord Herman
2007-07-29, 05:27 PM
Yeah, the dimensions from Wookiepedia seem about right. I believe the smaller sizes are from one of the Star Wars RPGs, which are a veritable treasure trove of inaccurate information.

Well, there is a Lego Death Star (http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=10143&cn=416&d=322). It's not to scale, but it does include an appropriately sized star destroyer.

Couldn't you seize that cash through murder and robbery? It is easier than waiting for someone else to get it.

It's surprising how often efficiency does not come into play when thinking of such things...

But, if the DS2 was 900 KM long, then that little lego Star Destroyer probably isn't to scale.
