Taking items to the ethereal plane?

So I'm setting up a boss in my campaign that has a lab based in the ethereal plane. Except I'm not sure you can actually take items with you from the material plane and leave them there. I know I can DM-handwave if I need to, but I'd prefer to have it as something you can do mechanically too.

Ethereal plane is another plane of existence as much as material plane is. Everything you want to take with you functions in ethereal plane as they do in material plane. The only difference is how things interact between those planes.

yup, i think the lowest level option you have as far as official spells to permanently move something there is plane shift, although gate would certainly be much more practical... but that doesn't mean you can't have a lower level spell that only covers going to the ethereal plane, or even just have a portal somewhere (plane shift canon is that there are natural interplanar portals, so why not?)
