Hello,

I am building a witch with arcanist style casting.

Do you think a quick study type hex is necessary for it to work good ?

And if so how to make it ? 1+1/3 level use ?

By "quick study type hex" do you mean a hex that duplicates the Fast Study (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/wizard/arcane-discoveries/arcane-discoveries-paizo/fast-study/) arcane discovery?

No it wouldn't be necessary, but it would certainly be nice. It's particularly unnecessary for witches, who always have their hexes even if they have less than an hour to prepare spells, so it's much harder to catch an average Witch with her pants down than it is a wizard or arcanist (barring optimization obviously.)

And if so how to make it ? 1+1/3 level use ?

The discovery doesn't have a use limit, so why would the hex version?

No, he's referring to the Quick Study (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/hybrid-classes/arcanist/arcane-exploits/quick-study-su/) exploit.

Ah. For simplicity I'd probably just give them a reservoir and some exploits in exchange for half of their hexes.

That would be quite a big change for just my lazyness to just not wanting to prepare spells :p

Well, there's always the unlettered arcanist (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/hybrid-classes/arcanist/archetypes/paizo-arcanist-archetypes/unlettered-arcanist/) archetype for arcanists or the ley line guardian (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/witch/archetypes/paizo-witch-archetypes/ley-line-guardian-witch-archetype/) archetype for witches.

Using arcanist-style casting is ok, quick study and exploits donīt really fit the style of the witch, tho.
Personally, Iīd lean more towards using the spell specialist, with the witch patron spell as the specialist spell, as well as having the ability to change that one slot out, but losing the specialist bonus when doing so.

I don't really see your point Florian.

My problem is not that the witch have arcanist like casting and progression. I just don't want to have to prepare spells.

The question is that do implementing a "quick study" like thing is mandatory for it to function well and if so, how to implement it reasonably without going totally OP ?

Quick Study is not necessary.

Quick Study isnīt mandatory, nor is it fitting with that classes overall theme.

Quick Study as-is doesn't really fit with the theme of the class, but it would fit very nicely if you renamed the ability Beseech.
