Hello everybody!!
Volo's Guide to Monsters offers a series of possible variants for Beholders' rays and for their central eye as well.
Among the latter are Power Word Stun and Mirage Arcane.
Now... Power Word Stun is quite easy to understand, but Mirage Arcane is a little bit harder.
Do you think that such a Beholder can, at the beginning of each of its turns, reshape the region inside the cone?
This would ignore the casting time of the spell, which is clearly its only weakness, making it an extremely powerful effect!!
Regarding the spell (and I drop this Sage Advice here to avoid discussions on the nature of the spell: http://www.sageadvice.eu/2016/04/12/could-i-stand-at-the-top-of-an-illusory-tower/ ):
Could this Beholder create a box all around the PCs in the area affected and effectively block them?
How would you rule PCs can get out of such hurdles? (the boxes are likely to have the same resistance of their real counterparts...)
Can a creature with Truesight choose to ignore the spell and walk through the "real" illusion?
