Well, i was reading through the BOVD, (for my character lord malrog, yes i'm striving to make him the most evil character i've ever made) after watching a special on Vlad the impaler. I searched through the BOVD exection and torture section and no sign of impalement. I'm curious on the rules on this. I'm sure they exist somewhere. So i'm curious, not to sound absolutely sadistic, but i wish to know them. Malrogs throwing a dinner party soon so he needs to know :smallwink: .
Plus lets name some other torture methods, just for ideas ^^
HEre's my contribution for all you who've seen "Ichi the Killer"
Hang em from hooks on their back and pour hot oil on them, What bonus is that to intimidate, +10?
:xykon:
Write back y'all ^^
P.S
What should the rules be for being intimidated by a avatar of the god of genocide and conquest? +10?

Stick bamboo shards (or the equivalent) under their fingernails. Makes me shudder just thinking about it.:smalleek:

Use magic to heal people so you can hurt them again. Perhaps a Regeneration spell as you feed the man's guts to another captive? Or serve him as dinner. Be creative.

Not to spoil the party, but I think we should be mindful of the forum rules, ie let's not push the graphic details on torture ideas...

Potentially graphic, PG-13+.

Cast and DMM: Persist a Mass Lesser Vigor.

Beat him with a cat-o-nine-tails with shards of glass embedded into it. 1d4 damage. Hit him every 12 seconds.

Now throw salt-water on the wounds, call it 1d4+1 non-lethal damage. Continue strikes with the cat-o-nine-tails.

Scar every part of the body. Do this for ten rounds. Dispel the Lesser Vigor then tie him up in a black burlap sack. Pure more salt-water into the bag then hang him up on a spit over a fire. Call this 1d8+1 non-lethal damage.

Do this every day for six days.

After six-days are up, take him before a crowd of peasants and throw him onto the ground infront of them. He'll be covered in scars, crawling on his hands and knees, and begging not to go back in the bag. It's much, much worse than killing, because it scares people into willingly joining you. Call this your Leadership feat.

i'd say its about a +20 on diplomacy

The worst one I heard of was strap a cage filled with rats to a person with the side against their skin open. Place a torch near the cage, the rats will dig through the person to get out. This really existed and was used to torture people.

Go with the classic cover 'em in honey and stake them next to a bee hive/antt hill/wasps nest/any two/all of the above.

1 - get a rusty hack saw and slowly to about half way through his shin bone then restart about an inch up.

2 - Hang him up side with a rope and then get a huge nail and pierce the ball of his heel so that it goes towards his calf. The put a candle above the wound so that the hot wax slowly trickles into his wound and towards his knees.

3 - Cut his arm open and rip out his nerves and tendons.

4 - pop their eyes out with a rusty sharpened spoon.

5 - chain them to the floor and then get some weights and place it on their chest so that the weight will eventually snap their ribs one by one.

6 - bind them up with rusty barbed wire (rusty things are good for torture, I would guess) then use an electricity spell on the barbed wire to shock it through his wounds. Then make him jump in a bath of salt.

7 - Get a sharp nail and ram it up/down wards through his teeth and into his jaw.

Me, I like my bad guys to use simple tools. Heated pokers thrust into nonvital areas (and leave them there, thank you Angel), simple knives in the face or other sensitive areas, or of course, LeChiffre's Rug Beater Technique from Casino Royale. I take it back, I've never used that last one, because I'm male.

But seriously, dagger to the ear or especially the eye. Lots of nerves around there, and causes significant permanent damage; just in case they escape, it'll be harder for them to shoot you. Or if you go for the ear, bonus points if you put on "Stuck in the Middle with You" on the stereo while you work.

1 tie victim, lay him down with the face up
2 sews(?, i don't know if that's right) the victim mount.
3 pierce with a hook the eyelids of the victim, and make sure you push the head of victim enough that his head dones't touch the floor anymore.
4 put a magnifying glass pointed to his eye now wide open, in a sunny day.
5 forget the guy for some hours.
6 feed and hydrate him,
7 repeat

One cookie for anyone that can say were I got it. (hint, it's from a manga).

OH got one, ask he/she if he/she has any loved ones. either way take out your trusty "Loves ache" dagger, (it's my own creation, it damages the person's closest loved one). Start stabbing. When he's confused you tell him what it does. And say how you can do this all day, till he/she has no one left, then it just hurts them.

put his lower body through the plane of fir and his upper through a gate to the plane of frost. Then switch for awhile and heal him so you can start again.

I have another one. Get a rusty hacksaw and start sawing his skull. Then cut his ears off Resevoir Dogs style and then slice off his cheeks and nose before closing them up with cure light wounds. Then get a heavy crossbow and kneecap him before removing his eyes and pouring hot lead in the sockets and cutting off his finger digits one by one and making him eat them after which you will remove his teeth with poisoned dagger accidently cutting out his tongue in the process. Finally cure him and then play a Backstreet Boys album at full volume in the background.

I designed this torture method for Jozan and Gimble but I feel that I'll never have a chance to put it into practice so you can for me.

On the subject of impalement, it's actually not that effective as a torture device if you're trying to get information out of somebody, because the process is 100% fatal. There's no way to shove a wooden stake lengthwise through someone's body and have them survive under normal circumstances, and since the stake remains in the wound you can't really heal it with magic because then they've still got a wooden stake through them, regardless of how much the wound has been healed over. If you don't care if the person dies or not, then go for it, keeping in mind that it's probably one of the most horrific things you could possibly do to anyone, and definitely only something a completely inhuman monster would do (which says a lot about Vlad Tepes). Fortunately, this seems to be what you're going for.

I'm not too sure of the effects of impalement as torture...as impalement usually kills the victim and it would be difficult in getting information then...although speak with dead is handy then.

Visually it would be a good display of power for cowering the masses and such.

As for other torture ideas go, I had a player who was a blackguard at one point that had a simple yet effective technique:

-Threaten to skin the soles of their feet.
-If not complied
-Then skin the soles of their feet

Once done, it openes up a whole slew of creative nastieness on the poor individual from taking him out for a jog...to casting Otilukes Irresistible Dance.

The Persians put Midas in a wooden coffin, alive, and kept him out in the sun. There was a hole they fed him honey and milk through, but no out hole for all the loose stool a diet produces. When they opened the coffin up several weeks later, the once living man had been turned to maggots and rats.

You guys are sick!:smalleek:

Back to the OP, use the rules for quarter and drawn. It's like 2d6 for the initial puncture. Or treat as though he got run through with a spear(size according to length of your stake). Treat as though it was set against his charge, if you throw him on it.

Sword of Truth series, am I right?
Temple of the Winds, specifically.Predating that, 1984, more or less.

Predating that, unfortunately, is the actual practice. There is little in the way of non-magical torture that hasn't actually been done at some point; fiction pales in comparison to reality.
