It has been a though couple of days for you and the company of adventurers you travel with. After successfully clearing an underground citadel, facing unexpected challenges as kobolds, goblins, undead and a mad Druid you accomplished your task and start heading back to waterdeep to claim your reward.
As night falls the company decides to make camp and rest in the forest each one takes a watch as usual...
On Alinzas watch, you don't know why... maybe it's the exhaustion builded up from the task completed, but you feel awfully tired and close your eyes just for a second, when you re open them you notice that the woods are quiet this night, and the air grows chill. Your fire sputters as a low mist gathers around the edges of your camp, growing closer as the night wears on. By morning, the fog hangs thick in the air, turning the trees around you into gray ghosts. Then you notice these aren't the same trees that surrounded you the night before... You look around to see your companions and wake them Up.

As you guys wake up and emerge from the mist, you see as a skeletal warhorse and a rider both clad with ruined chainmail charges towards you. The skeletal rider holds up a rusted lantern that sheds no light. it takes mere seconds for it to reach you position, as you brace for the impact it goes right trough you... you feel an unearthly chill but it doesn't harm you in any way.... the skeleton keeps going and disappears into the mist only leaving behind a strange little black notebook... you now stand right on the edge of the forest and a muddy roadway...

"Helm protect us... that was a close call!" Vyaridi Bolshovir, with Crossbow in hand, gasps and recoils from the sudden chill that smitten his soul. "how are you all faring? Did you too feel that spectre clutch at your very being as it charged through?"

What is going on? Devan wondered as he stared at the trees. The forest that he and his companions had camped in had changed overnight. Everything seemed drab and gray, as if the vibrancy of life had been leeched from the land itself. A momentary fear flitted through his thoughts--was this the mad druid's doing? But it couldn't be, they had slain him at the climax of their confrontation and had burned his body afterwards.

As he exchanged worried glances with his three comrades, the sudden appearance of an unknown rider immediately caught Devan's attention. With both the mount and its master sharing a frightening skeletal visage, he assumed the worst--that they were undead. With a shout of warning, lightning wreathed the young Inquisitor's hand as he prepared to defend himself against the creature's charge. However, the physical impact of body upon body never occured. The ghostly rider simply bore through and past Devan and the others.

A sigh of relief escaped his pursed lips. So far, it had been a morning full of eerie surprises. He peered over at Vyaridi, sharing a knowing look. The quick warrior had also been ready to fight, his crossbow cocked and at the ready. "I know not what that was, but I mislike it," Devan admitted. "And this place... it seems unnatural. These woods are not the same woods that we camped in last night. Have any of you experienced such a thing as this before?"

Their current situation was a mystery, and it seemed to only be getting deeper. The Inquisitor stared at the little black notebook that was left behind, his face betraying a hint of apprehension.

"Don't try to scare us, Devan. How could they not be the same?" Vyaridi was narrow-mindedly argumentative this eerie morning. "We each took watch, we could not have been moved without knowing about it prior. It must be this fog that's playing tricks on us - These mists were certainly not here when we set up camp. "

Upon hearing Vyaridi's words, Devan looked unquestioningly perplexed, a slight frown creasing the corners of his mouth. He swung his right arm about, indicating the alien landscape with a wave of his gloved hand, "Do you not trust your own senses? I've been up and down the Sword Coast and have never once encountered such a forest as this. And the apparition that charged at us, what of that?" He paused to shudder then murmured to no one in particular, "A dire omen to be sure."

With a cursory scan of his currrent surroundings, the wary Inquisitor pondered on a course of action. He and his companions certainly couldn't stay put forever. But the unnaturally ubiquitous mists made choosing a direction to travel quite difficult. Even his augmented sight had trouble piercing the gloom. To him, one way looked much like any other. "I suppose this roadway must lead somewhere," he assumed. But was it to somewhere safe?

"A dire omen indeed. I trust my senses enough to know that there is a Sorcery afoot." Vyaridi said after a pause, seeming to have an answer for everything. "Is not safe here, be this the Sword Coast or otherwise." Vyaridi loads the remainder his crossbows, packs his things, and mouths a quick prayer before as he begins to tread carefully up the road. he is certainly still shocked after seeing the skeletal haunt, but he mustn't let his comrades know that he, too, is afraid. As you start walking down this muddy roadway you notice this towering trees, whose tops are lost in heavy gray mist, block out all but a death-gray light. The tree trunks are unnaturally close to one another, and the woods have the silence of a forgotten grave, yet exude the feeling of an unvoiced scream.
Walking along the road for about 1 hour something disturbs your senses, You catch the scent of death on the air...
The foul scent leads you to a human corpse half-burried in the underbrush about fifteen feet from the road. The young man appears to be a commoner. His muddy clothes are torn and raked with claw marks. Crows have been at the body, which is surrounded by the paw prints. The man has obviously been dead for several days. He holds a crumpled envelope in one hand.

The unnatural stillness of the land--with its lack of buzzing insects, animal cries, or even breeze-rustled leaves--made the muddy trek discomforting for Devan. Oh, to be back in the warmth and safety of Daggerford, he sighed wistfully. This place, wherever he and his companions happened to be, was not where they belonged. And the sooner that they found their way back to the coastal Trade Way, the better.

Clutching his steel shield a little tighter as he peered down at the dead body at his booted feet, he couldn't help but feel a surge of sympathy for the poor, deceased lad. Such a terrifying end, especially faced all alone, was not a fate he would wish on anyone, except perhaps for the monster that took his beloved from him. The sudden thought of Elysia made his face wince in angry sorrow, but he pushed his personal pain aside for the moment. "May Lathander's light guide your soul on its way to the next life," he whispered in quiet benediction over the unmoving corpse.

Turning back to the others, he asked, "What does it say?" First, they'd found a noteboook, and now a letter. Perhaps the missive had a location scrawled upon it so that they might finally know where they were. It was a small hope, but still a hope nonetheless.

The letter has a large "B" set into its wax seal, the parchment is worn and flimsy, and the letter reads as follows:

Hail thee of might and valor.
I, the Burgomaster of Barovia, send you honor – with despair. My adopted daughter, the fair Ireena Kolyana, has been these past nights bitten by a vampyr. For over four hundred years, this creature has drained the life blood of my people. Now, my dear Ireena languishes and dies from an unholy wound caused by this vile beast. He has become too powerful to conquer.
So I say to you, give us up for dead and encircle this land with the symbols of good. Let holy men call upon their power that the devil may be contained within the walls of weeping Barovia. Leave our sorrows to our graves, and save the world from this evil fate of ours.
There is much wealth entrapped in this community. Return for your reward after we are all departed for a better life.

As you guys linger around the body trying to unravel the meaning of this letter.. coming to the realization of the superb task presented ahead if you decide to aid this poor folks of Barovia, a land never heard to you... and now knowing for sure that you are no longer in the sword coast... in a moment of realization Flint hears a lone wolf howling far off in the forest, not minding it much... he finishes with his prayers for the diseased. No so long after... another wolf howls as well this time is not only Flint, but devan and vyaridi hear it too... looking at each other... you sense this are not regular wolves howling as there is something vicious about it... Alinza seems to be too immersed into the letter and the idea of a vampyr to be minding attention to the howlings, that with each second passing another wolf seems to be adding its voice to it... as the sound gets progressively closer to the location of the company, you guys decide it's better to avoid any conflict, you cannot tell for sure but a number between 10-20 different voices are now howling together... with a distinct tone reminding you that there is something else added to some of the creatures...as you start hearing tree branches crack and the steps getting closer you pull alinza out of her momentary "trance" and rush out of the woods into the road, picking behind your backs from now and then to see some shadows of large feral 4 legged creatures in the distance following your trail.. as you reach the muddy road again.. the howling decreases and seems to be fading away...

As you travel this roadway you see black pools of water stand like dark mirrors in and around the muddy roadway. Giant trees loom in both sides of the road, their branches clawing at the mist, after 4-5 hours walking along the road the fog spills out of the forest to swallow up the road behind you. Ahead, jutting from the impenetrable woods on both sides of the road, are high stone buttresses looming gray in the fog. Huge iron gates hang on the stonework. Dew clings with cold tenacity to the rusted bars. Two headless statues of armed guardians flank the gate, their heads now lying among the weeds at their feet. They greet you only with silence as you approach the gates swing open, screeching as the hinges move

The gates close behind you as you pass through. In front of you the picture doesn't change much, the muddy roadway keeps going with trees on both sides and the ever present mist, about one hour after the gates The ungodly stench of rotting flesh hangs in the air. Up ahead, the walking, moaning corpses of dead men and women lumber about you see 4 figures about 60ft from your position.

Barovia, Devan thought to himself as he scratched absently at his stubbled chin. It was not a land that he had ever heard of before, and he'd been up and down the Sword Coast more than once. And the rest of the letter's contents didn't bode well either, with its words painting the land as irredeemably accursed. What have we gotten ourselves into? he wondered with growing concern.

Even the creature that was mentioned in the missive seemed hauntingly familiar, evoking an eerie sense of deja vu in the worried Inquisitor. But perhaps this was a testing ground of some sort--a task set forth by mighty Lathander to challenge his resolve? Maybe if he could prove himself here, then he'd be able to face down his own demons back home. It was a faint possibility that he pondered upon in silence.

As the group continued to push onward, putting quite a bit of distance behind themselves, the landscape's gloom never abated. It was a constant blanket of miasmic despair that clung tenaciously to everything in sight. And as they passed through a wolf-riddled stretch of forest and then through a massive gate of gothic design, never once did the pure light of the sun ever pierce the mists. The sun god's power is curtailed here, he sighed.

Devan's bleak reverie was cut short by the sudden moans and shuffled footsteps of the damned. His companions competently readied themselves for battle with a practiced calm--they were experienced warriors after all. And this was not the first time that they'd faced the undead together. The sandy-haired Inquisitor instinctively knew the part that he had to play as well. Potent arcane syllables spilled from his lips as his sorcerous power surged.

Alinza shakes her head as she's nudged out of the trance, and shudders as she hears the howling, breathing a sigh of relief as the shadows disappear.

She regards the gates calmly, saying, "Right then. Onwards, shall we?" as she boldly walks towards the open gate, shivering only slightly as it closes behind her.

When the undead appear, she draws her halberd and says grimly, "Right then. To arms!"

As soon as you get into line of sight the undead creatures move full speed towards you. On a closer look these zombies have gray-green flesh... oddly seems soft, and its bones seem brittle. For those familiar with the arts of magic the stench of horrible necromantic magic is pretty obvious. You notice a particular zombie with a well crafted black executioner's hood covering his face.

Ignoring the foul stench emanating from the shambling corpses that were closing in, Devan drew upon the divine power coursing through his blood. With a sacramental gesture and a whispered prayer, he invoked a blessing upon himself and his allies in their time of need. Creatures of corruption were about to assail them, but the protection of the sun - with the sorcerer as a living conduit - would bolster them against these unholy threats.

The righteous Inquisitor stood his ground, while his gloved right hand dropped to his opposite hip in one fluid motion and unsheathed his gleaming longsword with an audible hiss-ching. If these abominations thought that he would be easy prey, then he was eagerly determined to prove them wrong.

Devan with longsword in hand casts blessing on himself and comrades, as a feeling of warmth covers the ones chosen by him, just as if the sun was starting to heat up your skin just enough to forget this mist covered forest.

Alinza charges forward with her halberd at first with the spear like thrusting of its tip alines strikes the zombie with the black hood right trough the belly, disemboweling the rotten insides of the creature and releasing and awful smell that almost makes you return the trail ration you had… recovering her footing she makes one large sweeping swing, cutting the creatures head off, as it rolls down…. the body keeps moving, in worst shape than before, but moving as if nothing had happened, its bony hands take a couple of wild swings at alinza, you are able to dodge the first claw attack but you exposed a flank in the motion and the second one strikes true.

OOC: Take 6 points of damage.

Vyaridi with a swift motion takes his crossbow, loading it with extreme speed as usual shoots while moving towards Flint, the bolt is released and hits the right shoulder of what seems to be the reanimated corpse of a long dead guard, the zombie shows a little of recoil effect but it doesn’t stop it as he now charges at you it tries two hit with both of his hands and take a bit at you. it leads with his bite attack as you successfully repel it, it lashes you with his claw in an upward fashion scratching your belly, the other claw misses your head by far as he wildly swings.

OOC: Talke 6 points of damage

Flint concentrates on his holy symbol as Vyaridi repels one of the zombies.. meanwhile another one approaches his direction this one also dressed up in muddy and roten leather amor, with a red scabbard on the left hip, a flash of bright flames appears in the spot of the zombie, oddly enough the zombie is able to evade the flame by taking a step to one side… now charging furiously towards the caster making a full attack, successfully landing a bite attack on the dwarf left shoulder and scratching him on the back with one of his claws before his able to repel him.

OOC: take 6 points of damage.

The last zombie takes a full move towards devan and its ready to attack next round.

With a look of consternation etched across his face, Devan prepared to defend himself against the menacing creature before him. The quartet of zombies had closed in on his group with surprising speed, and now they each found themselves squared off with one apiece. It was not an ideal situation since their current positions made it difficult for him and his companions to focus all of their fire on a single enemy at a time. But there was nothing to be done about it now except survive.

Hefting both his shield and his blade at the ready, Devan swung a diagonal slash at his foe that followed an intended arc leading from its left shoulder to its right hip. As an experienced swordsman, he knew that striking his weapon toward his opponent's center mass had the greatest probability of landing successfully.

As devan takes his stance to properly take a hit at the zombie, but momentarily loses his balance almost missing its mark but the divine bless, helps him successfully strike his opponent taking a diagonal swing, to the previously unharmed rotting corpse, slashing one of his arms off, the black coagulated blood runs on his right flank.... as the zombie takes action against him, punishing with a claw attack across the face and a bite on the shoulder. The next thing you see it's something you've never seen...but the arm you just severed from the zombie drags itself right at your feet taking a swing at you. The zombie's claw strikes true slashing your face as you dodge the bite and the arm in the floor.

take 7 Damage

Alinza drops her halberd, reaching for the great sword on his back, trying to make a swift attack across the zombie, but the pain from the claws on her flank prevents her to make a successful swing and her sword strikes the ground remaining caught momentarily as she pulls it out, leaving her unintentionally exposed. The headless zombie takes a wild attack at you as if trying to rip you open, two claws to your back as the head with the hood moves in a bitting fashion from far away. Apparently the zombies aim is as precise as your in this round as hi misses.

The guard zombies gets hit by another bolt from vyaridi, this time right trough his belly not minding much about it, it takes two wild swings to your torso and tries to bite you, as your falchion cuts right through the left leg of the zombie threatening Flint severing it from the rest of the body, the zombie remains standing nonetheless, as flint warhammer misses the enemy infront. On claw strike taking some flesh from your torso vyaridi, the other attacks miss.
The now one legged zombie takes 2 claw attacks at the dwarf and tries to bite but everything misses but a claw that gets on of flints arms

vyaridi takes 3 damage, flint takes 7 damage.

As you recover from the attacks... the ever present mist of this strange land gets thicker, as you hear the sound of hundreds of tiny wings flapping.... and the hoofs of horses coming down the road pulling a black carriage that comes into sight down the road a tall male figure is driving it, three things catch your eye, the long ebony hair that moves with the wind, the pointed ears with dark grey and some tints of purple skin, and a scar across the forehead... of what from the distance seems to be an elvish creature of some sort. The black carriage it's pulled by 4 ebony studs, and there is two red lanterns on the side of the door. The carriage stops approx 30 ft from your positions as the door slightly opens figure comes out... a tall and pale creature comes in to the light of the lanterns, dressed in expertly crafted leather armor, and a red cuirass, detailed in gold, metal shoulder plates connected with an expertly crafted golden chain a blue long cape follows behind, the left hand holds the hilt of a sword on his left hip, while a glass of red wine is held on the right. Long dark hair adorn the squared pale face of this fanged creature, now standing next to the carriage in complete silence....

Blood ran down Devan's face in a crimson rivulet, staining his cheek bright red. He blinked back against the stinging sensation caused by the gash scored along his temple. But despite the fuzzy haze of pain, he was still able to maintain his concentration. Which was a good thing, because at the moment, he sorely needed to keep his focus razor sharp in this life or death situation.

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the ominous carriage that had just arrived and the passenger who exited from within it. The dark-haired stranger watched the melee intently, but Devan couldn't tell whether the man was a friend or a foe. Hopefully not a foe, he prayed, because he and his companions already had their hands full dealing with the zombies.

And while he had landed a solid blow against his undead enemy, it was still ambulatory and aggressively attacking. The determined Inquisitor was desperate to finish it off. With a powerful backswing, he brought his longsword across in a horizontal slash toward the creature's neck as he invoked a sacred curse against its blasphemous nature.

Alinza is driven into a combat frenzy as she bisects the zombies infront of her, she builds up in her momentum and swiftly get to the zombie in front in Devan from her position she makes a horizontal cut right through the zombis back, spilling all the insides as the zombie stops moving…

The ones paying attention to the pale individual next to the carriage see how momentarily.his attention is draw to alinza, following her eveymove with his eyes . Then he takes the cup on this right hand to his mouth and takes a sip. Those of you whom are very perceptive notice the shadow of the individual produced by the lanterns in the carriage of the individual moving in imposible ways, by its own, it evens move closer to your shadows and it seems to be trying to choke them as if reaching for their throats, except for alinza… it seems to reach out and caress hers.

The pale individual, after taking a sip from the cup… takes a step forward ¨Welcome my unfortunate guest to my lands… it´s being a while since we had the pleasure to be entertained y the heroic deeds of a group of strangers.

I am Count Stahd von Zarovich eternal ruler of this lands…and you are my most unexpected guest… feel free to roam my lands, and don´t bother looking for a way out as there is none. Once you reach my kingdom no one leaves unless i say so..

There is just one simple rule i appreciate my guest to follow… and lack of compliance would turn to be your undoing:
Ireena Kolyana, its mine!! you are not allowed to go near her… talk to her… not even look at her and if you try anything to interfere .. i´ll make sure you suffer for eternity by my own hands.
You notice how in the inside of the carriage there is another person, looks to be females, and as soon as the name Ireena comes up she shifts uncomfortably .

The count continues saying, It´s a shame.. but i´ll be leaving now.. there are much more important affairs that require my attention other than see you be slay by my minions In the event of you making it out alive … make sure to avoid the fog… i can be …very suffocating. The count turns his back to the group and tries to climb up into the carriage …

Vyaridi with your falshion cut off one of the zombies arms but this ridiculously resilent creatures won´t stop until they are gone for good. once again it tries to bite you and slash your torso, and the arm in the floor tries with some difficulty to slash at your feet. as you were paying attention to the count the zombie takes advantage and unleashes a full attack on you

A bit confused by the stranger's sense of timing as he introduced himself in the midst of the chaotic combat, Devan chose to ignore the self-proclaimed Count for the moment. There were other more pressing matters that demanded his immediate attention. And luckily, Alinza had finished off the creature he'd been stuck dealing with, so he was now free to help some of the others. In particular, it appeared that Flint needed some backup.

With a deft gesture and a whispered word of power, he unleashed a shimmering bolt of force at the rotting zombie assailing the dwarven priest. Thankfully, there were only two of the abominations left, but that was still two too many.

Flint was a little too concerned with the Count... that hi didn't keep his guard up as he should, and the zombie struck him with his claw... after recovering his breath and avoiding the other attacks. he assessed the situation... Ireena he thought to him self... not realizing at the moment that it was the same name as the girl mentioned in the letter found in the woods.
As the pale man was leaving.. and didn't pose an immediate threat... he opted for letting him go and fight another day...

He called once more into the essence of Helm this time for his might the chanted for the spiritual weapon, and as the mighty representation of the "ever watcher" helms Bastard Sword materialized... he struck the zombie infront of him with his warhammer and commanded the sword to strike the one at vyaridi's throat.

Vyaridi is on the ropes, he is not going to last long if these zombies are all this tough. In a rush of bloodlust he lets out a passionate battlecry and strikes full-on at the zombie in front of him. Alinza takes care of a couple of the zombies with some hardcore slashing action, making a bloody mess all around.
As all of her attention was in the combat, she was´t able to get the message the count was trying to deliver.. she tried to stall him, hoping to a second chance to ay attention
but non the less the Count didn´t see to be interested in the company at the moment. He was now closing the door of the carriage, and with the corner of the eye getting a last look at how the combat was fairing. His strange shadow had now disappeared.

Devan taking a deep breath, unleashes an arcane bolt of pure force, blowing half the zombies face off, which was attacking the Dwaren cleric, but impressively still standing. Flint reading the situation pretty accurate, concentrates on calling the might of his patron deity, calling forth an spectral bastard sword to unleash its power into the zombie attacking vyaridi, after taking this zombies don´t seem to be going down! Flint now takes his warhammer and smashes it into the zombies chest… now making him go down, as the zombie finally stops moving

Vyaridi is feeling exhausted, normally zombies .. at least regular zombies are not this tough! but they are not getting the best of him! he lets out a battle cry as his falchion desperately slashes trough the one in front of him splashing black thick blood all over the place as the zombie finally finds his final rest.

the black carriage starts moving… and the mist quickly follows.. those of you minding it, see as the count takes another sip from his vine cup.. and a resemblance of a smile appears on his face… then the carriage disappears into the mist….

Alinza takes a breath, surveying the wreckage of the zombies, then turns to the rest of the party and says, "Right," as she picks up her Halberd and dusts it off, "Onwards to Barovia then? Oh, and did anyone catch what the count said? I was...Busy."

With the four foul undead finally put to rest, Devan glanced up and down the mist-shrouded path. The black carriage, and its owner, were nowhere in sight. He exhaled a quiet sigh of relief. The melee with the zombies had been tough enough without an additional combatant tossed into the mix. This whole, surreal situation that he and his companions found themselves trapped in was bewildering to say the least. So, was that Count the creature mentioned in the letter we found? he wondered. If so, it appeared he was well aware of their presence. And any element of surprise they might have ever had had now gone up in smoke.

Shaking his head clear of such adverse thoughts, the weary Inquisitor turned to more practical matters. With a few focused applications of a cantrip, he cleaned off his weapon - and the weapons and clothes of his comrades too - of any spattered ichor that remained. Some of the stench of rot was alleviated, though the decomposing zombie corpses were the worst of the offenders. But there wasn't much he could do about those at the moment.

Upon hearing Alinza speak, he turned to her and added, "I wasn't able to pay close attention so I missed most of what the Count said, aside from his general mocking tone. But you're right, we should press onwards. Staying put will gain us nothing."

Casting prestidigitation (http://thebombzen.github.io/grimoire/spells/prestidigitation) a few times for cleaning purposes.

He - who was clawed and bitten relentlessly by two zombies for letting his guard down and actually listening to what the count had to say. Count Strahd Von Zarovich... "the majority of it, is that there is no escape, nobody leaves his land unless he says so, Stay away from this Ireena person, I think he say her last name was Koluyana, 'or else', and that the fog can suffocate us." he says while prying his bolts and picking up his crossbow, getting everything reusable back into easily reachable position."I sensed something from him. I think he might be the Vampyr from the dead man's letter, and if he is, and if he told us to stay away the same Ireena as the one in the letter, then I would say we need to shoot him through heart next time we see him."

The young warrior gulped,
fearing his hunch is likelier than he thought it would be. Nevertheless, Both Helm and Tyr teach as one to protect and calm those who are afraid, even at the cost of one's own life. "Do not succumb to his presence, Comrade." He said while grabbing Flint's shoulder, bent down to his level, trying miserably to hide his wounds and inner fear. "Had he not wanted us to fear him, he would not have spared us so confidently, it is our duty not to give him the pleasure of yielding to his threats. Is that not something a Guardian of Helm's teaching should know?" Vyaridi put on a brave face, he was not great at comforting, but if Helm's blessings could bless at least one of them with genuine courage, they may yet stand a chance in escaping this land of evil.

Tall shapes loom out of the dense fog that surrounds everything. The muddy ground underfoot gives way to slick, wet cobblestones. The tall shapes become recognizable as village dwellings. The windows of each house stare out from pools of blackness.
No sound cuts the silence except for mournful sobbing that echoes through the streets from a distance.

As you enter the village a raven stands on a rooftop, it starts to fly and through the mist, you see the black bird circling overhead. When it feels your eyes upon it, the raven flies away, but it's back before long, keeping its distance.

You keep walking into the center of town, you see the people wearing plain clothe in shades of brown, white, and grey clothes, their faces staring openly at you with dull, dark, and brown eyes, not a nod or a smile or any kind of reaction... just openly staring. You see two other individual among the barovian people both males, one is middle age man, wearing a bright red vest stitching clothes, that waves at you before continuing his trade, the other is a young teenager with bright blue eyes carrying crates of vegetables still dirty from the land. He nods as you past by.

If Devan had any doubts as to whether he wasn't somewhere on the Sword Coast or not, they were quickly put to rest. The village that he and his companions had just entered looked like no other village he had ever seen before. Maybe the letter was right, perhaps this land is cursed, he ruminated. Looking around, he spied only bleak, colorless buildings and silent villagers who glared at them with unfriendly eyes.

Shuddering, he wondered why none of them were reacting to the sobbing noises that he clearly heard coming from somewhere down the street. I guess they're not the neighborly type, he judged. And as Alinza attempted to question one of the Barovians, Devan craned his neck about, trying to spot the source of the wailing. The wrenching sound was obviously full of anguish and he couldn't help but wonder why.

"I'll take this one.

alinza chargin towards the man in the vest happily smiling, in an almost bizarre way, as you mention the name Ireena... you see some fear in the man in front of you... whom quickly replies... no ma'am never heard of that person before. He the goes back to his business. Flint the drags you away whispering some paranoid thoughts.

Devan now realizes that this strange place is definitely not in the lands known to him, this dull place definitely catches your attention... curses may be real after all.
You drift yourself apart momentarily following the strange sobbing noises that clearly everyone heard but no one reacted to... the moaning sob floats through the still, gray streets, coloring your thoughts with sadness. The sounds flow from a dark, two-story townhouse where you find yourself, apart from the group.

Flint now dragging alinza looks desperately for a good ol fix of beer... looking around everything is dull and dark.. but you see a sign that reads Blood of the vine Tavern...

You approach the man with the vegetables... he seems happy to be selling his merchandise and you notice a pastrie that looks and smells like small mincemeat pies. He quickly reacts to hide it... and hands you a handful of carrots, grey, small... not very appealing... it would be 5 sp. he says.

Approaching the townhouse where the sobbing was emanating from, Devan walked up to its doorway and stopped. Peering around, he wondered for the second time in as many minutes why none of the other villagers were paying the noise any heed. It sounds like someone's in pain, he thought. Don't these people care about their neighbors? It was a strange community which seemed to be a perfect fit for the eerie, mist-shrouded land that he and his companions found themselves trapped in. We really need to find a way back to the Sword Coast, he sighed.

As the crying continued, the concerned Inquisitor turned and knocked on the door. The knuckles of his gloved fist rapped loudly three times. "Hello?" he probed. "Is everything okay? Do you need help?" He silently hoped to Lathander that he would get some kind of a response back.
