View Full Version : New Use for Concentration - Combat Focus

Many martial characters have concentration as a skill for some reason. I'd like to make use of that, and add another combat option to martial characters.

It works like Iaijutsu Focus, with a dash of Psionic Focus thrown in.

Combat Focus: When combat begins (i.e. you roll initiative) you enter a state of combat focus. While focused you become hyper-aware of your surroundings, gaining a +2 bonus to spot and listen checks. Additionally, whenever you land an attack of opportunity you can expend your combat focus to deal additional damage (damage is determined just like using the Iaijutsu Focus skill from OA). You must decide to expend your focus before the outcome of your attack roll is determined.

Refocus: their are two ways to refocus during combat, first is to use a standard action and make a DC 10 concentration check, the other is to land a critical hit, which automatically restores your focus.

The bonus to spot and listen is to aid in avoiding additional ambushes during combat, as well as be able to better locate invisible or hidden enemies.

Because this skill is triggered by attacks of opportunity it can't be used as a way to deal consistently higher damage, but it favors melee combatants where they can threaten many enemies.
