ITT: We talk about things that will happen before we get another update on Katia Managan's Marvelous Misadventures. I'll start: We get Half-Life 3 Footage on E3.

Anybody else is a masochist who keeps checking every week hoping to see something other than Kazerad postponing the update since 2015?

Every week? Try every day. Kaz streams drawing in bars in the evenings sometimes, and it's fun to drop in for those. I've dropped comics for shorter hiatuses, but this one keeps me coming back.

I was planning on making a new thread once the update dropped, and when I saw this thread, I thought it finally had. I'm a little upset about it.:smallannoyed:

I've long since stopped checking. I'm pretty sure a thread much like this one will pop up if he finally updates. And yeah, I too thought this thread meant the update had come.

Well, there IS a new side story up (http://www.prequeladventure.com/aggy-pass-down/), featuring Aggy (You know, the Ancestral Guardian ghost who taught Katia how to use the Grab key?). It's one of those ones that slowly reveals itself over a few days, sort of the way the Porcupine Dodger story did, except tied to time instead of fundraising.

So far it's pretty funny. It seems very much that Aggy is some kind of doom magnet, which... bodes ill for how the main comic will turn out.

...Still waiting for the promised update on the main comic.:smallconfused:

Ayup. At least the intermission comic was good. And hey, the update message changed! So a bit of a change of scenery. That's good, right?

I'll be honest truthful and admit I saw this thread updated and got all excited for a moment. Then I got excited thinking at least the update message had changed since the last time I checked. Then I was disappointed.

Will there be more to the ghost sidestory or is it done?

Well, I'm just trying to read this comic's history. Kinda large.

I'm up to http://www.prequeladventure.com/2011/04/343/ -- she's just found out that she's a mage of a different type, and just needed a charge in order to use magic.

Now it's just a cat-agory of controlling her puns in thought.

Am I the only one that posts comments on their archive binging as they catch up to the present?

So here Katia is asking about fate. And I love this answer:

Some legends do speak of heroes whose fates were unwritten. Their destinies were said to be ambiguous even to the gods, who could only respond to the heroes’ actions – or attempt to guide them with no guarantee of success. Often, these mortals would grow unimaginably powerful, and their choices would affect the lives of millions. It was said to be a blessing and a curse: to hold your own fate, but to be the unknowable black wall that clouded the future from the divines…
…But I’m guessing you don’t have to worry about anything like that!

Talk about fore shadowing.

But if I did not post, this would pass the 45 day mark and be a dead thread.

I just got up to her tossing fireballs. I love how the whole "start fires out of control" turns into "Toss fires from her paw", complete with a cooked crab breakfast.

When wandering around the town in http://www.prequeladventure.com/this/KatiaExcelsior.html , I cannot find the mage guild. With all the build up about it, can someone tell me where the mage guild is?

EDIT: Never mind: It's that building that's closed until nightfall.

Ugh. Just Ugh.

Katia: Get some money from that creepy lady. She’s clearly not a vampire, just a neck-romancer.

Sigrid is a character in Oblivion. (http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Sigrid_(Oblivion)) She does nothing of note in the game as far as I know.

She does nothing of note, except die by my sword! Serves her right.

Playing Oblivion and reading Prequel enhance each other's enjoyment significantly. I loved visiting quill weave's house, and being a witchhunter in Oblivion. There are also a bunch of game mechanic jokes I missed before playing the game, from noticing Katia using the persuasion mini-game (admire joke coerce boast) on shopkeepers to the way telekinesis or changing clothes works.

I heartily recommend reading prequel together with playing oblivion.

I liked reading it until Sigrid mind controlled Katia and that's when I thought the comic was trying to be clever for its own good.
I felt the "Player Imput" was completely arbitrary and even if it didn't exist events just happened inorganically.

What happened later made even less sense. Why would priest guy think that Sigrid having gold stolen would teach her responsibility instead of installing better security?

Then I stopped reading altogether.

Thanks to this thread for making me check it out. I believe I'm not very far in but I am greatly enjoying the strip. It's been pretty heart breaking so far but thinks are starting to get brighter (Katia just got to Kvatch).
Poor Dmitri though. :(

I'm already dreading reaching the end and hiatus hell.

Also, why does Katia use the "Home Alone" method of dealing with thumbtacks on the floor? You can just sweep them away, you don't need to tank the damage!

Uh guys don't you remember?

Katia has a crippling phobia of nobility and/or royalty.

to the point where she is afraid of Martin even when she doesn't know he is a noble.

I'm pretty sure throwing herself out the window was probably specifically because she didn't want to become one. why would she want to become what she has a crippling phobia of and would probably make her more likely see her phobia around her?

It fluctuates, but I've noticed that each time she gets brought low, she's a little better off than she was before, she's a little more confident, and she's gained a few things that can never be taken away from her (befriending Quill-Weave, learning magic, etc.)

The part following the aftermath of the Mage's Guild fiasco is some of the most weirdly, genuinely uplifting stuff I've read/played anywhere, though. Like, there's a mini-game coming up that actually made me feel a little better when I was depressed.

Basically, it's sad but not hopeless.

Man, it's going to bug me that we now have two PREQUEL threads with the same tagline. Oh, well.

Also, it's really strange to think that for a bunch of people, they've been following this comic for a year and this is the first time they've seen it update.

Well, this is the story of how Katia eventually ends up imprisoned without anything to her name.

So I've been re-reading the comic to get back up to speed and... wow. I'd totally forgotten about Katia: Enter. Is it weird I'm amazed at the consistency? Even the rusty key is in Katia: Enter.

PSA: How to get each route.

There are three routes--wall (barracks at bottom left), castle (top left), and dungeon (tower at top right). The first time you walk past an entrance to one of these routes, it will be locked and the other two routes will open. Whichever of those you trigger first will be initiated. Note: The dungeon route's trigger is more specific than the other two. See below.

Wall route trigger: Walk past either the castle or the tower entrance, then walk past the barracks before triggering the other route.

Castle trigger: Walk past either the barracks or the tower entrance, then walk past the castle before triggering the other route.

Dungeon trigger: Walk past either the barracks or the castle, then open the door to the tower. Simply walking past the tower is not enough to trigger the route--you have to actually click on the door. So you can walk past the castle, walk past the tower, and still trigger the wall route by walking past the barracks.

wao

So I don't necessarily see any novice witchhunter skills that are applicable here, but I'm making a game effort to figure out what Katia might need to learn to get out of this situation (assuming getting out of this situation is the point). Cold touch, Shocking touch, probably not. Soul Trap is in Katia's specialty and the subject came up, but it's not clearly either useful or relevant to a learnable skill. Hm.

Okay, so got the castle front door and the tower basement routes. Haven't done the third yet. Between the two I did do, I rather like the castle entrance cause it's fun watching one guard beat the snot out of the other. XD
