Probably not the right section for this, and if not, feel free to move it to the correct one.

Does anyone do horror-based games pretty often? What music do you use? I've got some players going into the Forest of Mir soon and they're going to be locked into a section of it. Need that really eerie, creepy, horror sound to get the right feel for it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Yes!

Nothing is better than the original Alien soundtrack.

Music from David Lynch movies and shows are also good.

This is what you want. Tried and tested in Curse of Strahd. "Please stop that music, I can't think straight."

Not relevant to the specific scenario at hand but WoTC's website used to recommend the music of Darkest of the Hillside Thickets for Call of Cthulhu games. I don't think that article's still up though.

We listen to a lot of Atrium Carceri. Can be found on YouTube.

For a more Ravenloft feel the Dracula and Sleepy Hollow movie soundtracks are pretty spot on.

When I sing, many scream in terror. But maybe that's not what you intended

Uuuh, thank you for that.

Since this is still D&D we are talking about, some dark combat music might also be in order. My favourite sources thus far include Darkest Dungeon OST (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sniwnwK1_W4&list=PLGOvv8Bziniqak1ebzd6njY9S27GdxPRL) and Berserk OST (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEvtnqh5OsE&list=PL9146BDACDA5C450A). Bloodborne and Dark Souls are on the list to try.

When you wanna scare someone, play something by Throbbing Gristle. Works every time.

I'm going to recommend the soundtracks to Resident Evil, RE2, REN, and the remake. They are masterful at building tension, and they're designed to be listened to for a long period of time. I ran my players through a massive horror dungeon, and the remake's mansion theme was perfect.

The one that has anextensively long title with 'mountain' in it? It is indeed good!

Precisely that one! After a replay, I decided to do some research on the design of the manaion, and that led to my creating a sprawling dungeon based on the design philosophy of the RE mansion. Naturally, Long Mountain Name was my go-to music when I ran it.

Look up "Midnight Syndicate". I've used some of their stuff as ambiance for Halloween Haunts.

I do, but since I play online with people in other states, the music would just make communication more difficult.

I also really enjoy using

Layered over the music I choose or by itself in quiet moments. There are many creepy mixes premade
