Cleric dip for the inquisition domain and divine defiance I believe is arguably the best out of all of these. It's always available as long as you have some dispels prepared/on your spells known, the inquisition domain's +4 on dispel checks can be used to break dispel and greater dispel's normal cap. Combine it with the feat arcane mastery which lets you take 10 on CL checks (of which dispel is one) you can use that, plus the inquisition domaine to automatically counter any spell cast by a caster of up to 3 CL higher than yourself. If you get, at level 9, the elven spell lore feat, that gives you another +2 (which also goes beyond the cap, because these are not CL bonuses, simply bonuses on the CL check). That lets you go up to 5CL above your own, and finally a dispelling chord gets you up to 7CL above your own.

Personally I prefer building that on a straight cleric rather than simply using a cleric dip to achieve it on another class. The only issue is arcane mastery, which basically requires you to spend a feat on either magical training or one of those feats from Complete Arcane that gives you some low level SLAs 1/day. Either that or go a race that gets innate SLAs, but in that case you aren't a human Totally worth it for the consistency you gain from arcane mastery though. Literally being able to completely shut down an enemy spellcaster while losing none of your combat efficacy at all is pretty damn amazing.

So i saw this in another thread, and since I have a cleric/church inquisitor build on the back burner for when i invariably get tired of my current char, I thought to myself, how would you go about building this into an already planned out toon?

The lvl 1 variant: Illumian Cleric

built up to lvl 9 for someone else to use in a high death game:

cleric 3/church inquisitor 6

Judge Dredd concept

https://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=1167394

+2 caster level to ALL spells
+1 caster level to all LAW spells
+1 caster level to all Turn Undead checks
+1 caster level to all inflict/harm spells
+1 caster level to all mind affecting spells

so you could have a huge +++ Caster level depending on descriptors

You are probably a touch OP on gear, but as a Church Inquisitor, and a high ranking member of the Church of Scales, I'm banking on you getting an item or two from the church...

All spell selections are made, you are basically the hand of the church, and in pure Judge Dredd fashion, YOU ARE THE LAW. If you have to intimidate someone into the ground, force the truth out of them, or bash their heads in, you can do all of that. You don't brook no shenanigans, if they broke the law, they die, or are brought to "justice", however you want to interpret that.

Assume that all of your gear is encrusted, embroidered, emblazoned with the scales of balance and St Cuthbert symbol on every conceivable surface, you are not hiding what you are by any means

Again, you have no wands/potions/gold

I have only 2 feats on there, Law Devotion for +3AC/+3 attack for 1 minute/day, and Pious Soul which is all cheese (anti I missed anything). I don't envision the character being a mounted knight in any way, you are an on the ground face beater. If you want to do mounted combat, give yourself a mount and spend the feats on that, otherwise flesh out martial combat how you will.

You have heavy emphasis on sunder/destroy armor/weapons in your spells, an unarmed foe falls easier. Shatter is fun :)

The Illumian racial bonus from glyphic word gives you +2 to con/wis checks, if you want to interpret that as a bonus to the saves as those are technically a "check" you can add 2 more to fort/will, but you don't need it.

You're REF save is sh*t, but you can't have everything now can you..

So, with that in mind as the general direction I'd want to take the character, is it possible to build the dispel trick above into this w/o a complete rework?

tl:dr, aint nobody got time for that, go read it.

so it looks like at lvl 3 i could take necropolis dread, Comp Arcane 81, which would allow a SLA 1x/day of cause fear, ghost sound, and touch of fatigue. OR Insightful (pg 80) for a SLA of 1x/day detect Magic, detect secret doors, and read magic. Either or both of those would be suitable flavor for the build, which would then later allow me to take arcane mastery at lvl 6, and at lvl 9 the elven spell lore feat.

I'd be pushed back to lvl 12 for any other feats, but i'd be a mean church inquisitor at that point...

where would you go feat wise from 12 onward?

however i missed that i'd either have to take devine defiance at lvl 1 and drop law devotion, or talk the dm into allowing a flaw
