I'm running a Homebrew 5e campaign with extremely limited resources, because I want the PCs to have to make hard choices about what to use when in combat and use many different solutions to issues. However, I want to introduce magic items into it without using DMG items. So, I could use help thinking of either single use items (used in combat or otherwise) or unique magical items that have roleplay uses but not normal combat usage.

For example here are the three I've put in there so far (excuse the poor wording for the Two Faced Coin, I still need to work on phrasing).

Pixie Dust
Single Use thrown item - throwing Range 60 ft
When the bag impacts on a target or spot, the Pixie dust explodes outwards and spreads 10 feet from the spot of impact. Roll 5d8 and characters in the area fall asleep per the effects of the sleep spell.

Two Faced Coin
Single use item
The magic coin is golden in color with stamping on either side of it. One one side it shows an image of a happy looking man, on the other side there is a man with his head on the table. As a free action you may speak the command word, the coin will pop out of your pouch and flip into the air. Roll a d4 - on 1-2 it lands with the happy man face up, 3-4 the sad man. If flipped manually you get of feel of woe or happiness based on how it lands. Once used the coin fades into a normal gold piece (worth 1 GP).
Happy Man - The roll that you just rolled turns into an automatic success
Sad Man - The roll will turn into a critical failure. On an attack you drop your weapon. On a skill check it will have the opposite effect intended. One a save, the spell will be doubly effective.

Cheaters Coin
This appears to be a normal copper coin, with a King’s head on one side and a Queen’s on the other. With experimentation you discovered that when you focus on a side, it will always land on that side.

I will probably also put an immovable rod into the campaign because they are fun.

The cheater's coin is exactly the kind of 'minor' magical item that a cunning PC could use to change the world- I love it!

That's my goal, I want my players to have to come up with unique solutions to problems and still give them magical items without the standard +1 armor and +1 weapons.

I would love other ideas as well

I gave the characters a book of all the names of the dead once. Took them ages to find a good use for it, but once they got going.

I might be able to help with that.

There are some simple potions and ammunition types in here (http://mfov.magehandpress.com/2017/01/simple-magic-items.html), and items that might encourage roleplaying in here (http://mfov.magehandpress.com/2017/03/7-disappointing-magic-items.html). There are some in here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/s3crmpfdbc5u5x5/Fey%20Creatures%20Complete.pdf?dl=0) too, on pages 46 to 48, but they're quite... strongly flavoured. You probably couldn't use most of them in a 'conventional' campaign.

At least, that's a start. I've written lots more, but they're mostly hidden in pad content or not published yet.

Thanks a lot! I'll have to check out the ones in the dropbox when I'm not at work, but the others look like fun ideas.

And this isn't a 'conventional' campaign in any sense, the PCs are a mixture of evil/neutral and all monster. Plus resources are very tight, they literally cannot buy items
