The La'shey

Most creatures are comprised of two different parts, the physical body and the soul. The La'shey are what happens when you skip the first. They are literal living souls solidified in a physical form. The origin of the race is lost to the secrets of time, but they are capable of spreading their own kind, though the process is difficult on the recipient (who must be willing).

The La'shey are humanoids appearing as indistinct versions of their previous selves, though individuals that manage to maintain a particularly strong sense of self through the transformation process can look more detailed. Some La'shey that are particularly strong of will can shape their appearance. Base Le'Shay have a strange coloration to their skin that makes them appear faux-translucent despite being solid. The actual color varies somewhat randomly from person to person, and though a light blue is the most common, some think there is a minor connection between the individuals alignment and the subtle shadings in the primary color. Hair and eye coloration are usually so close to skin that it takes close examination to tell the difference. Eyes are pupil-less.

As souls rather than mortal creatures, the La'shey are technically immortal, however as they age they have a chance for their solidity to break down, causing them to slowly fade from the physical world and go on to wherever their soul is destined to go. This process can start at as early an age as 100, and a La'shey rarely lasts more than 1000 years.

The actual physiology of a La'shey is... complicated. Much of a La'shey's body form is based on the creatures self-image. This means that while the body does not technically have any physical needs, weaker minded La'shey will still feel such needs, and manifest them in a sort of psychosomatic disorder. If they believe they need food, water, sleep, etc. then their body will require such things. An average La'shey falls in this category.

Type: Outsider, native, humanoid. A La'shey is an outsider that always counts as native wherever it is. As a manifested soul, it has no home plane and thus has no where to go with things like banishment.

Stats: -4 con, +2 wis, +2 cha. A La'shey's physical form is weak, but they have a strong natural attunement to their sense of self.

Energy Affinity: As creatures that are pure souls, La'shey have a strong affinity and vulnerability to divine energines. They both deal and suffer +1 damage/healing with any source of positive energy, negative energy, or any divine energy descriptor (ie flamestrike that is described as doing damage from a divine source)

Exposed soul: As a La'shey lacks the usual mortal mind that buffers the soul from the world around it, they take a -4 penalty on any effect that directly targets the soul.

Detect energies: The La'shey can sense the energies around the world around them, they gain detect magic, detect life, and detect undead 1/day.

True sense: La'shey are adept at seeing the world as it truly is and easily resist attempts to decieve them. They get a +4 bonus vs illusions and +4 to perception and sense motive.

Behind the veil: A La'shey can very briefly give up their solidness, doing so is highly uncomfortable but allows them to turn fully incorporeal for a few brief seconds. 1/day as an immediate action, lasts until beginning of their next round.

Soul lash: The La'shey are capable of using their own essence to attack the essence of other creatures directly. This is incredibly dangerous to the La'shey in question and is rarely used. Once per day as a melee touch attack that counts as incorporeal, they deal up to 1d6 damage per 2 HD to any creature with a soul (meaning constructs are immune). This damage bypasses most forms of damage reduction. The La'shey also takes this damage as irresistable backlash as they strike out with part of themselves. This damage cannot be healed in any way but natural recovery.

Fade with age: Once a La'shey hits 100 years of age, every further year has a 1% chance of starting the fading process. Once this happens they gain the incorporeal subtype. After a further 100 years has passed, the process starts again. Once the 1% check has failed, they become utterly unable to interact with the psychical world and cannot pass on normally until they reunite with the remains of their previous self. If they are unable to do so they slow go mad, turning into the haunting spirits so many cultures fear. Each extra year they remain they must make a DC (10+years passed) will save to remain sane.

La'shey Strong Soul
Some La'shey have a significantly stronger sense of self, and are thus more powerful than standard La'shey. Few La'shey start their new life this way, though unusually spiritual people like high level monks may. They gain the following abilities:

Detect energies: A strong soul can use detec magic, detect life, and detect undead at will.

Soul Lash: A strong soul only takes half the damage they deal. The damage still cannot be healed by any means but natural recovery.

Fade with age: A strong soul only needs to make the d% check once every 5 years.

Behind the veil: A strong soul can go incorporeal for a number of rounds per day equal to its hit die. These rounds need not be consecutive.

Alter appearance: A strong soul has much more control over its form and can use disguise self at will.

Becoming a La'shey
The process of becoming a La'shey involves a highly secret ritual performed by an existing La'shey. The ritual must be performed be an existing La'shey, requires a full day, and uses up a flask of holy/unholy water. The ritual drains one permanent level from the La'shey, and the recipient must make a DC 15 will save or lose most memories of its previous life. A strong soul performing the ritual can negate the need for a will save.

We have a hombrew subforum- this should go there, and as a Dwarf in the Playground, you should know that.

Your race might need a new name. Sounds a bit familiar!

What's the LA on this +2?
How many rounds does the IMMEDIATE action incorporeal last? Id swap that over to a swift action so players couldn't bs their way through a situations.

As stated in the entry, it lasts until the beginning of their next turn. So at max 1 round.

That's pretty cool!
But would a PC Lashey be a Strong Soul or not? Because if not, well... The -4Con really hurts and the abilities gained are fluffy but generally inferior to just picking human every time.
If a PC is a Strong Soul with LA+0, then it sounds fun and playable.
