I posted a versatile domain variant earlier but it was pointed out that it was possibly too powerful; here's a similar effect but now in feat form so you have to pay to access it (yes I know it's better than the epic Spontaneous Domain but who uses that? :D). Let me know if it's too powerful still, or if it could be expanded for other domains. Also to-do: better granted powers.

Improved Domain [General]
One of your domains now more fully reflects your deity's portfolio.

Prerequisites
Cleric level 1st with the selected domain.

Benefit
Select a domain that you possess. You may use your domain spell slots to spontaneously cast spells of equal or lower level from that domain.

You may also use your domain spell slots to spontaneously cast spells of equal or lower level with an appropriate descriptor (or other quality), as given by the following table. You may cast spells in this way even if they do not appear on the cleric spell list. If a domain does not appear on the table, you may only use your domain spell slots to spontaneously cast spells from that domain.

Domain

Spell Descriptors*/Types

Air
[Air], [Electricity], [Sonic]

Chaos
[Chaos]

Death
[Death]

Earth
[Earth]

Evil
[Evil]

Fire
[Fire]

Good
[Good]

Healing
Conjuration (healing)

Knowledge
Divination spells

Law
[Law]

Sun
[Light]

Travel
Conjuration (teleportation)

Water
[Acid], [Water]

*Some spells can gain descriptors (e.g. summon monster). You may spontaneously cast these spells provided they gain the appropriate descriptors listed above. For example, a cleric with Improved Domain (Good) may spontaneously cast summon monster I with her 1st-level domain spell slot to summon a good creature.

Special
You may select this feat more than once, each time choosing a different domain.

You may spontaneously cast spells other than those described above, at the DM's discretion. For example, selecting this feat for the Plant domain might allow you to spontaneously cast speak with plants and/or summon nature's ally (plant creatures only).

Greater Domains
Your spellcasting now fully reflects your deity's portfolio.

Prerequisite
Improved Domain (any), Cleric level 9th

Benefit
The benefits of your Improved Domain feat now apply to all of your spell slots, and you may therefore spontaneously cast any appropriate spell of equal or lower level using any of your spell slots.

Special
You need only take this feat once. Its benefits apply to all domains you have enhanced with the Improved Domain feat.

And finally (I'm sure it exists somewhere but here's my take):

Extra Domain
You have meditated upon many of your deity's aspects.

Prerequisites
Cleric level 1st.

Benefit
Choose one of your deity's domains that you do not possess. You gain that domain (including its granted power) and may prepare spells from that domain in your domain spell slots.

Special
You may select Extra Domain multiple times, each time choosing a new domain. If you do not worship a particular deity you must defend (to the DM) how your choices are metaphysically related.

Well, Improved domain just works for a couple domains. That is not so great. And most domains only give one descriptor, but some get two or three....that is a bit unbalanced. And more so there are a Ton of say [Fire] spells, but only a handful of [Air] spells. And it only gets worse with the knowledge and travel getting whole spell schools and not just descriptors.

Extra domain is nice....but feels like a waste of a feat. Just give clerics ''add one domain every five levels'' as a class ability.

Yeah balance was a problem - I originally had all the domains but when I found myself assigning Trickery to [Darkness], [Language-Dependent], enchantment (charm) AND illusion spells I realised I was going overboard :D I pared them down to the simpler domains.

Divination is in a sense the "weakest" school (see: can't give it up as a specialist wizard) so spontaneously casting it isn't incredibly overpowered. Similarly conjuration (teleportation) is only a few utility spells in total.

I agree that the feats should probably be rewritten as full spell lists for each domain for proper balance but that was a bit more work than I was prepared to do.

Well, you could do Improved Domain like:

Pick three spells per level to add to your domain list. The spells must match the type of spells all ready in the domain.

Or something like that.

I included the "You may spontaneously cast spells other than those described above, at the DM's discretion. For example, selecting this feat for the Plant domain might allow you to spontaneously cast speak with plants and/or summon nature's ally (plant creatures only)." part so that the DM and player could work out extra applications of the feat, even for domains not listed.
