First off allow me to say that i have NO IDEA if this is in the correct spot or not since i have never used this site before or any like it. I know next to nothing about D&D and am only really interested in the creatures. This brings me to my actual question on if the Cheshire cats are a actual race or something made up, as they have caught my attention yet i can find next to no information about them. A simple yes or no will do wonderfully, but more indepth explanations or links to information is even better...and...mods, if this is in the wrong spot, could you please move it for me?

Assuming you didn't already know, the Cheshire Cat is a creation of Lewis Carroll that appears in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

3.5 stats for it can be found here: http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fools/20030401c

Yes, sorry, i do know that (who doesn't?) but i was more so asking if it was a 'canon' (complete D&D noobie, don't know if this is the term i should be using) species

Well, it wasn't invented by D&D designers in the way mind flayers and rust monsters were, if that's what you're asking. The cats existed long before D&D.

Are you asking if it's possible to encounter and play one in a game of D&D? Because if so, the question amounts to: "what sources does your DM allow?". If they say Cheshire Cats are a part of their setting, they are.

Wasn't 100% certain from the wording of your question, but yeah, I figured you knew that. :smallwink:

It doesn't exist in D&D (at least, in 3E) outside of that web article; therefore it has no real role in the ecology or history of official 3E game worlds or campaigns. In short, it has no D&D canon as such. I can't vouch for 4E, 5E or Pathfinder, though.

FWIW, you might want to check out the 1E modules Dungeonland (http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/17039/EX1-Dungeonland-1e?it=1) and Land Beyond the Magic Mirror (http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/17040/EX2-The-Land-Behind-the-Magic-Mirror-1e?it=1): they are based on the works of Carroll, and are quite entertaining.

It may be important to note that the D&D 3.5 source for them (folks have linked it already) is an April Fool's Day article.

Here I was thinking I was (in)famous for something.
