Because, despite being a trolly song... I actually quite like it. It's got a nice melody, good lyrics... I enjoy it

It's a legitimately enjoyable song, and I've consistently had it on my playlists since the meme started.

It's not my thing. My musical tastes tend towards favoring distinct and short individual notes, words sung or spoken at a fairly high pace without vowel stretching, and the use of a wide range of pitches in vocals and notes. That's basically the opposite of this song, and while there are songs I like that break those rules (some Greenday, some Lupe Fiasco) the songs don't tend to break all of them fairly dramatically. "Never Gonna Give You Up" is basically the antithesis of these preferences.

It's not my cup of tea, but it's not particularly bothersome either.

Always liked it. Disliked the meme for always cutting out far too early

It's a fine song for what it is. Not really my preferred type of music, but I don't hate it. It's catchy. His song "Together Forever," though, takes me back. As a kid, we had an 80s synthesizer that played that song in demo mode in crazy synth instruments on repeat. It was a fun day when I discovered the actual song was the basis of it.

I used to dance to it when I was young...then I got Rick-rolled and now I hates it...hates it forever!

I liked the song before it was a meme.

I never got the point of the meme, but when I helped out at a sheltered workshop a year or two ago one of my co-workers would always be playing it, and it starts to get annoying when it's forced down your throat.

It doesn't bother me like it used to, unless somebody sings it just to make a point. Same goes for "Don't Worry, Be Happy", and "Always look on the bright side of life" by Monty Python.

I like that the meme is still going.

Most Internet memes have a lifecycle (https://xkcd.com/1835/) of about ten years, and the first recorded instance of a rickroll happened in May 2007, which means it's pretty much at its expiry date. And yet it keeps cropping up. I like that.

I don't like it all that much, actually. I much prefer this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0) one.

It's ok, but it's not something that I'm likely to choose to listen to. My feelings about it are probably best described as "meh".

Until you set it to Smells Like Teen Spirit. I hadn't seen that before, and it's amazing.

While I liked it at first, "Smells" wore out it's welcome for me.

The sum is greater than it's parts!

Wow.

It is better in the original Klingon!

Incredible.

Anyway, I'd say the song itself is harmless enough. Its lyrics are sophomoric, but no more so than your average pop song, and it's catchy without being obnoxious. The only thing that really bothers me about it is the opening bit, and that's really only because of the meme.

Does anyone else think he looks way too young to have that voice?

I really like this song, but I have grown a slight dislike since it's become a meme. The first few seconds of the song have been ruined for me, they just trigger a feeling of "NOT AGAIN". But the overal song is really nice to listen to...

When the song came out and was on the radio... I misheard the lyrics. I thought he was saying "and them I'm gonna", rather than "I'm never gonna". Kinda changed the meaning of the song when I stopped and actually listened to the song years later.

I just saw a funny commercial from Go Daddy. The Internet is a person, and at the end of the commercial, he drives off with his car radio playing " Never Gonna Give You Up" .

I have it on my playlist and listen to it at least once every week unironically. Sometimes I sing it when I'm stuck on traffic.

Somehow those two posts have changed how I imagine Elan

Nice one, 2D8. I can definitely see Elan singing that without a hint of irony or shame.

Maybe THAT was what attracted Haley to him, not what's underneath the hood.

There's also a version out there mixed with Robo's theme from Chrono Trigger (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvLK3js9waE). It works nicely but feels less like a mashup than the Nirvana one since... well, it kinda sounded similar already.
