I didn't see anyone talking about it so I figured I should make a thread.

The Stream of Annihilation is 12 hour streams on the D&D twitch channel on June 2nd and 3rd from 10 am PST to 10 pm PST. At the start of the stream Mike Mearls, Chris Perkins, and other members of the D&D team will be announcing the new adventure path! The only info we have so far is this (https://i.redd.it/48q8ss4hunzy.jpg) bit of art, which features an Eastern looking cityscape with people riding dinosaurs. Eberron? Chult? Sword Coast? Who knows! Teams of D&D streamers, youtubers, and "influencers" are meeting up from all over the world in Seattle to test out and the new adventure and stream it! This is apparently the start of a push to mix D&D and livestreaming more.

I got this information from this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEH1BX4m0eY&t=303s) interview with Greg Tito, communications manager for D&D, and this (http://dnd.wizards.com/streamofannihilation) announcement article on the D&D website.

So. What do y'all think? Even if you're not interested in livestreaming, a new adventure path is always interesting, especially if it's not in the Sword Coast again. In the interview, Tito said that when writing the Monster Manual for 5e the team mapped out all the major adventures they wanted to hit within 5 years, and dropped hints and clues about it. Time to scour the dinosaur entries for hints, I guess!

Gotta be Chult, right? I don't think they're ready to move away from FR yet.

On a related note, they talk about Chult in the "lore you should know" section of a dragontalk podcast. It's the episode with wizkids' Justin Ziran.

Fair point! I haven't listed to Dragontalk; that's a good catch! For those better versed in Realmslore, were there any famous adventures that took place in Chult? From my brief scan of Wikipedia, it looks like there are ptera-folk(?) and sarrukh, which I believe are the monsters that enabled Pun-Pun...

I also made a post about this, though much less descriptive than the OP. I also didn't recognize the image used in the announcement and thought it may be related to the next story. It is from Tomb of Horrors.

I didnt see that artwork until now.

My previous guess was forest or jungle with fey/satyrs. Again, this was based off the satyr head in the tomb of horrors.

Chult does make sense based on the image provided in the OP. It is now an island, so only accessible by ship. And it has dinosaurs.

I could see Eberron being an option too, but I don't think they would publish an Eberron book and only use Q'Barra and Talenta plains, which is where all the dinosaurs are.

Yeah, in the interview linked, Tito said that the art was going to be central in their promotional material, so Dinosaur Port City is probably going to be central in the campaign. Tito also confirmed that "Stream of Annihilation" is just a cute way of incorporating the word "stream" into something D&D related. However, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Feywild themed adventure next; there are a lot of weird hints in the Monster Manual and Volo's Guide especially that something's going on in the Feywild.

Part of the point of this stream is to get several big name streamers to play the new adventure path, right? Tito stated they wanted to emphasize the connected-ness and "multiverse" aspect D&D camapaigns can have, where one party's actions can influence others. I know this was important in megadungeons; Dead in Thay was made to have several groups running in parallel with a super-DM managing how one party's actions affected the others. Maybe a goal of this adventure is to introduce that to more story based campaigns?

That looks a lot like the art from Dinotopia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinotopia)

My bet is that it is set someplace very similar.
